A while back I read a post on this forum that said Koreans have a special term for those people who tend to sit alone and not be part of the group. I know about "외톨이" but that translates more along outsider or alone. I thought the term that was mentioned in that post was more along the lines of 'solo emperor' or similar.
Any help would be appreciated. |

| Could it be wangta (왕따)? 왕 means King. |

| 왕따 seems to have a focus on ostracism, at least according to the dictionary. So it wouldn't seem like it would be used as a general term for anyone who sits by themselves. |

just clarified this with a Korean friend. It was as I expected. 왕따 has a focus on being forced out of a group. 외톨이 has a focus on someone simply choosing to be a loner.

so we just say 외톨이가 되다 or 외톨이로 지내다. 되다 is become and 지내다 means live. When he or she is far from society or friends, they are left alone.
