Lipton is the closest to good black tea I've ever found here. Some boutique brands are starting to do earl grey now too. Just look at any big brand mart.
Anyone ever found Dilmah? Miss that stuff. |
I was in one of the other foreign markets in Itaewon (not the main one by whatthebook) and they were selling Dilmah brand mint tea. I didn't see any black tea, but it could have been there. |

Just go to Seven Springs or VIPS for lunch and take a whole bunch of Rooibos. Every Korean I know does this. |

I have a box of Tetley that I jealously guard, as well as boxes of Twinnings. Yorkshire Gold is a must during the return voyage. The best Earl Grey is by far Williamson Tea's Earl Grey. Earl Grey fans if you ever get a chance try that. It puts Twinnings to shame.
And yes, I agree with the poster who expressed disapproval with PG Tips. It has some sort of sea-fishy-peaty flavor that I can't abide.
I know it sounds blasphemous but since I'm on a bit of a sobriety kick lately I've really gotten into Lavender, Peppermint, and Chamomile tea. Good for the soul. |

Go to Itaewon and you can buy 100 tea bags of lipton tea for 6,000won (same umbrella company as PG tips, Unilever I believe).
Problem solved. |

| I've never met a Brit who likes Lipton... I find the best price / quality match is Twinnings Earl Grey. However, does anyone know a place that sells that specific brand for the cheapest price per bag? I'm interested in stocking up on these, as I can drink a ton of them if I have them... but I wanna find the best deal. Is Costco my best bet? |

Lipton, made in Hong Kong, is wrong on so many levels.
Brento is right, NO BRITS in their right mind would drink Lipton tea.
Lipton tea is made for HKers, and HK milk tea is so different from the tea we are used to in the UK. I tried it and almost puked... but my eldest sister, who's lived most of her life in HK, loves it!

PG tips and Unilever are under the same umbrella group Unilever: an anglo dutch company (predominantly ours). And Lipton tea isnt manufactured in HK it comes from India according to the 원산지 labelling on the back.
There is nothing wrong with Lipton tea. It might not be as good as Yorkshire tea okay but beggars can't be choosers and all that.
Messi just scored a brilliant goal. |

Spot on there, my dear.
Lipton is gross compared to any brand of proper British tea. It really won't do as a substitute.
I don't know why people would scurry and hoke around this or that foreign goods market or dept store looking for nasty and overpriced substitutes......just get your favorite brand sent from the UK. It's actually cheaper, even including the cost of postage, and you get to drink your favourite tea! |

I like PG Tips... Probably because the past 3 boyfriends (including my now fiance) loved the stuff. Sure, we get some great imports from India on occasion, but our usual go-to tea is PG.
There are loads of Indian teas at the foreign market in Itaewon, though. |

| An ex co-worker gave me yorkshire tea bags when I was desperately awaiting my shipment from home. I prefer Tetley so if you want the Yorkshire ones you're more than welcome to them. |

I hate to say it, but short of having good tea sent in, you're better off learning to drink coffee.
The land of the morning calm, land of fields of green tea, has gone gaga over coffee, and drinkable whole bean coffee at a semi-reasonable price is starting to become widespread. Meanwhile, anything but green tea is considered un-Korean. Go figure.
However, here is a shop that has about five types of bulk tea, Asia Mart in Busan. 051-323-6080. [email protected]
It's near the intercity bus terminal by the EMart and HomePlus. There's a bunch of Asian markets in the neighborhood, but this is the best. The owner is Pakistani and speak very good English.
Sorry it's not in everyone's neighborhood. You might find other markets in other cities.
Or you could experiment with converting green tea to black tea? |

I would love to meet the posters who think Earl Gray comes anywhere close to British builder's tea. Bergamot=shower gel=not proper tea.
And as for Liptons, I'd rather soak the builder's Y-fronts in hot water, wring them out and drink it. |
