What is the deal with upgrading a SKT cellphone that I got two years ago under a contract. Is there a number I can call to speak with an English speaking operator about upgrading the thing or should I just go a cellphone shop. Also what are the chances of me getting a free upgrade with SK telecom?

I did it last Sunday. Almost the exact same situation. Me and my girlfriend took my free phone from two years ago to an SK shop, said I wanted a new, free phone and they showed me which phones I could choose from. Got a Motorola V10. I'm signed up through her so it's easy for me. The guy kept trying to tack on extra charges for this and that, and she had to keep telling him no. It might be a bit more difficult for someone on an E2 who doesn't speak Korean.

Thanks I'll try that and see how I go. Last week I went to phone shop and was told that I needed to go a SK service center to get an upgrade. The guy in the shop then wanted to sell me a phone for 250,000 Won which I thought was a bit much considering the phone he was showing me wasn't even wifi capable and had pretty much the same features as the phone I already have.

They will try and royally screw foreigners. The 250'000 phone he showed you was probably one of the free ones. If you have any Korean friends who trust you, sign up through them, or learn enough Korean to know when the clerk is pulling some stupid charge-you-extra stunt. It will make things much easier.

I went to a SK service center today and I was told I would have to pay another 150,000 Won just to change my plan. WTF?
Any idea how much I should expect to pay for an internet ready smartphone which includes a wifi capability? I don't really have any close enough Korean friends at the moment to cosign for me.
