Hi everyone,

I've just signed a contract for a job with the following schedule: Monday - Thursday 10:00 - 16:00. I asked the director if I would be able to work outside of the hagwon and she told me that it would be fine (and it's in my contract, so no worries there). I'm having a bit of difficulty searching for a job that fits the criteria I have - basically, evening classes. There are a few on craigslist occasionally, but they are only for F2 teachers (and i've contacted them, they're quite strict about this requirement). Haven't seen much on ESLcafe either. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help Smile

Problem lies in the restrictions placed on E2 holders in regards to 2nd jobs. Most of the time it is illegal.

Sometimes you can do it legally (as an E2 holder) BUT it is a bit of a song and dance to get immigration to allow it. (It CAN be done if the school is licensed to employ foreigners).

NOT all schools that have evening classes are allowed to have "foreign teachers" work for them .

F2/4/5 holders are in a different rule book ergo the difficulty for you and the schools reaction to you.

.

You need a letter from your school, and a contract from the second school, and u take them both down to immigration. You pay I think 80,000 won, and the second place gets stamped on your alien card. Even if your school says "yes", you must have the second school stamped on your visa.

My university said sure I can get a second job but they would not give me a letter. This means I can not get a second job.

If you are holding an E-2 visa:

It doesn't matter if your director agrees and it doesn't matter if it's in your contract.

Immigration has the final say as they are the ones that issue your visa.
You must submit the second school's info to Immigration and they must stamp your ARC which gives you permission to work there.

I just ask the director to put the word out.

We talked about hours and what kinds of people to teach. Then they came a knocking. I was lucky and have a fantastic director. We work in some broken Korean and English and it all works out in the end.

I admit it isnt like that everywhere, but I think its a great place to start. Remember to work out pay up front, as you dont want to get stuck in a 4 month commitment for something that you dont think is worth the money 1 month in.

The other thing thats nice about it (unless you live in Seoul or other nice mass transit city) is the students come to you, no worries about suicide runs with a pissed off minibus driver.

Sort of... finally got internet out on the beach instead of going into town.

Any schools out there looking for an old dinosaur of a teacher?

I finally got tired of doing nothing so it is back to work for awhile.
