This is no bull...

4850, stock runs this beast game at 1920x1200, all max except medium shadows and the setting immediately below that on medium....world detail maybe? 4GB, C2Quad 9650. Smooth enough, though no 60FPS.

Great game.

So 150K for a new graphics card and 160-250K for a new Quad-core...

dang! The upgrade is looking expensive and the only reason to get it is for this new game. My old setup works a dream except for this game.

Any reason to not just buy a new Xbox360 or PS3? To my eye the graphics look almost as good. There seems to be less and less reason to continue spending hundreds of dollars on PC upgrades, beside the fact that it's hard to FPS with a controller. But I think I could get used to it.

Check the link for screenshot comparison and let me know what you think (sorry it has to go through google translate because it's in german):

This being said, I own and love my Wii...so I don't have a discerning taste in graphics. Wink

What CPU are you using now? I'm still using a X2 6400+ I bought a year and a half ago for 150,000 and don't seem to be running up against it's limits. You may just be GPU limited.

The reviews I have read about BFBC2 say that the Quad core makes a significant difference in FPS.

I've got a new but lower-powered E3200 (oc'd to 3.0GHz) and 4 GB PC6400 RAM. No problems with recent games (MW2, Bioshock 2)...until now. Sad

I'd say you're most definitely GPU-limited.........and maybe a little CPU-limited too.

The 8800 was mighty back in the Fall of 2007.....and it even held its own during 2008.....but it started to get out-powered by cheaper GPU's after the HD4870 came out in Summer 2008.......

BFBC2 is a DX11 game......so to get the best out of this game (and all the other DX11 games to follow) it's probably better to upgrade to a HD5770 (210,000-ish) or an HD5750 (160,000-ish).....

.........unlike DX10, which wasn't very widely adopted by game developers, DX11 is expected to be the standard for all games for the next couple of years at least.

At the moment only ATI 5000 series are DX11........Nvidia will release their DX11 cards in 2-3 weeks.....maybe 4-5 weeks before they hit the shops in big numbers......the ATI cards might get cheaper then.

As for being CPU-limited, I noticed that my E8400, overclocked to 3.6ghz, was running at 70-80% usage during BFBC2 (max settings)......I'd say to run this game fairly well you'd need an E8400 or better.

Letting DX versions dictate purchases is misguided; you said yourself that DX10 titles were few indeed, and even when they were around, showed little worth upgrading for.

The 5000 series just plain kicks. Great cards at reasonable prices. So long Nvidia.

Anyone know of a clan based in Korea for BFBC2? Love the game but would like some proper organised games rather than everyone running around randomly shooting at anything that moves.

oh and if anyone is interested, running on Athlon X3 435 OC'd to 3.48, Radeon 4850 and 4gb Ram. Runs sweet as a button on a 23" monitor at max res and medium settings. Average of 50fps and lowest of about 35.

Actually got this averaging 30fps on my old 3.2GHz core2 and 8800gs. Had to so some tweaking and oc'ing and patching, but it's 'playable'.

How's the server situation in Korea....are there any low ping servers for the PC?

Bonus Xbox question: With the U.S. Xbox360; When you go online (while n Korea) do you connect to U.S or Korean servers? Is it a disadvantage to have a U.S. machine here when going online?

Way more Korean servers opening up- A lot of them don't show ping for whatever reason. Sort the Server List by name and look for "Korea", most Korean servewrs preface the name with KOREA

For awhile there was just one server, now there are like 12. Steam-buddy me: GilloD

Actually it's at 1680x1050 believe it or not.

The resolution seems to have NO effect on my FPS. It just affects what percent of my GPU is used.

And it works better on DX10 than DX9

It's the effects and stuff that kills it.

I'm playing the single player mode, and I've encountered a few bugs already. One particular bug is hindering my progress in the game, because my computer-controlled team mates aren't being respawned at the mission checkpoint.
I've updated it with the latest patch, but it still needs work.
