Ok, so I don't teach my 22hours as per the contract. However I have been told I have 2 'extra/special' classes. Fine by me, except they run from 4:15 till 6pm . Am I right in thinking I qualify for overtime? Not 20,000won but 30,000won as it is afterhours teaching(my contract states 8:30-4:30)? Can I decline?

Which program are you under, GEPIK, EPIK or SMOE?

Your contract says you finish at 4.30, so of course you can decline.

Also, don't let them BS you about not fulfilling your 22 classes. That is their problem, not yours.

I'm going to drag out my emergency plan and do it today, as I don't have my contract on me. After class before I leave I will have a word with them and explain that 6 without overtime is pushing it.

Any classes at all after the finish time on the EPIK contract is overtime . The first class at 4.15 is probably just OK, but not the next lesson.
These additional classes would have to be a 'deal' going on in the school and an after school program situation and not entirely legal to make you work for even if you have not completed 22 during the day classes.

If the students are paying any fee at all and it is after 5pm it is illegal.

Maybe the school has some after school program funding available to them above the EPIK fund and have seen you have some free hours and want to double dip the funding?

I arrive at school before 8:15am so, I believe that at 4:15pm I have finished my contract hours. Anyway, I spoke to her(my coteacher), about it and apparently the coordinator OK'd it(having spoke to the coordinator beforehand I know this not to be true). This is a small country school, school organised extra class(no students are paying). It is transport back into town that is going to be most problematic :twisted .

if they tell you to be there at 8:15 then you can leave at 4:15, the contract states 8 hours are your work hours ( at least the SMOE one does) If you work a class after 4:15 it is overtime, and you can accept or decline depending on the rate. I myself wont work for less than 35 000 for an ASP

Now, if you are oming into school of your own accord at 4:15, then you go home when your school tells you to, and you come in exactly 8 hours earlier.

Now if you are coming in (because your school tells you to, or you start a class) at 8:15 and they are trying to gve you a song and dance about the school day ending at 4:40 or 5:00 ( because you MUST be at your desking watching TV for that extra time right) then yu kindly point to the contract and assert your rights.

If you are teaching under 22 hours then you telll them to filll you up with classes before your 8 hour day is up, or its there loss.

Be hice and courteous, but stand up for your rights unless they are giving you something in turn.

Right now I currently teach 24 hours for no overtime, but I am allowed to take afternnoons off with no incident when I need them, and they giving me the exact vacation I wanted that I likely was not going to sweet talk them into otherwise, so for me it's worth it. Plus i gained their respect as I am a ghiving teacher in thier eyes.

So walk a fine line man. DOnt let them push you around, but don't shove back at them either.

Problem, mostly sorted out. Overtime will be paid for one class(20,000) and one teacher was nice enough to offer to give me lifts back to my town(just to the bus terminal).
