Hi guys,

I am heading to Osaka/Japan on Tuesday due to this Monday being a public holiday. I will be arriving in Japan around 12.30pm and will be heading straight to the Korean embassy to apply for an E2 visa which I will be picking up the next day...

My question is, can I even apply in the afternoon or evening? I seem to remember reading somewhere that you MUST apply in the morning, or it wont be back in time the next day...

I must clear this up before I go... Does anyone have any knowledge of this or experience getting the E2 visa in the opening hours of 1-5pm?

Any help or information is appreciated.

I am still very unsure of this. Anyone else have any experience with something similar?

I don't know about Osaka. But in Fukuoka, you can definitely hand in the application in the afternoon of day 1 and put up the visa at 10am on day 2 (maybe 9am if you explain that you have to hurry to the airport).

I went to Fukuoka last month... arrived at the embassy at about 2pm, picked up my visa at 9.30 am the next day.

I guess that by this time you've already got your ticket, but if for some reason you don't (the fact that your asking suggests that MAYBE your plans aren't fixed in stone), then go to Fukuoka. It's a nice city and you can get a lot of package deals at the travel agents. For 300,000-400,000 Won you can get a return flight and one night in a hotel. Sometimes if you're lucky you can get even cheaper deals. I think that deal is about the same if you take the ferry. If you were planning on rushing in and out of Osaka, I'm sure you didn't chose that city for tourism while you wait. So check out Fukuoka. There's nice bars and restaurants there. From the main train station Hakata (where there is a nice cheap business hotel - SunLife) you have a 20minute walk to the nightlight area. In the Hakata station there is an info desk where they have english maps and flyers and can give advice/directions in English. From there, you can take the metro to a stop close to the Korean consulate. After you pick up your visa/passport the next day, depending on when your flight is, you can take the metro again to the shopping district and buy some souvenirs or sample some Japanese food. Then get back on the metro again and head back to the airport. Fukuoka airport has a metro stop.

I was in Osaka in February. I arrived at about 2 o'clock to hand in my paperwork. It was ready by 9 the next morning. As far as I know, they do want you to be there before 11:30 a.m., but the lady at the desk didn't even mention this to me. So... I'd say you'll be ok... but you should be prepared for the possibility of it taking an extra day.

*Phew* ... Luckily I got the visa with no problems. Was there at 9.30am the next day. For anyone looking to know this in the future, I wouldn't take this risk at the beginning of a school term when lots of teachers are applying, for the quieter times of the year like now, you should be fine up until about 3.30-4pm for the next day.

Try showing up before 3pm since the office may stop taking visa applications before the office shuts its doors.
