there was a thead around here a while back about the Dept of State hiking fees after mid March for various services, like passport renewal, paged added, etc.

for e.g. they were proposing charging as much as 80 USD for merely adding pages.

since my passport was just about full, I took the opportunity to add pages to mine asap, before this was enacted.

anyways - turns out I paid ZERO to the US Embassy in Seoul, and I paid Hanjin courier 8K won for picking up the passport at school and then bringing it back with pages added. (I had my co-teacher call them and set it all up)

so if you're running out of pages, or will need to get them added anytime soon, I'd urge you to get it done HERE in Korea, rather than stateside where you will deal with their rapacious fees.

hell of a lot faster and easier here..
courier picked up my passport on Saturday.. I got it today, Thursday.
total cost.. 8000 won

stateside you have to go the post office, send them a special money order and you wait several weeks.

it's a no brainer.

How much does it cost to renew the passport? What are the rules, is it 10 years too? My passport expires later this year.

thanks for the reminder. I've been needing to add pages for a while. I've got a few pages of just stamps upon stamps now. Eventually I'm going to run into stupid problems where some agent refuses to let me enter the country because of it. Good to know it's so easy to do here.

OP, please elaborate on the steps you took, and any identification procedures, so that we might take advantage of the same. Also, where do you live?...and was that a factor...thanks

if you have the time and are near to the embassy, you can get it done in one day. I dropped it off at 10am and picked it up at 3. You don't even have to wait in line. Just fill out the form (available there) and go to the cashier to hand it over with your passport. Then just go straight to the cashier when you go to pick it up.

I'm in Gyonggi-do. I did nothing more than I stated. My co-teacher called up the Hanjin courier service, I had to download and fill out a form (available on US Embassy Seoul website, look for link under passport)
gave her (and she them) the form and my passport in a manila envelope, she told them it was for adding pages and I got back my passport 4 days later... whereupon my coteach paid them 8K won fee for the courier service and that's it.

Similar procedure for passport renewal I assume. May cost a little more, since seemingly I was charged nothing by the US Embassy. (in fact even got a receipt inside passport from US Embassy Seoul for Zero fee)

Yes, they'll double the size of your passport for free. Renewal currently costs $75.
