I'm looking to buy the board game GO, or Baduk. It's supposedly big in Korea but it hasn't shown itself yet to me.

Anyway, what kind of shop am I looking for? I'm in Anyang and most look the same. Perhaps closer to seoul would be a safer bet?

Go to any neighborhood stationery store (not in a big dept store). They usually carry toys/games/cards for the li'l ones. I picked up a "yutnori" set in one of those stores. Pretty sure they'll have baduk boards there too.

I've seen baduk (go) sets for sale at the following stores:

Home Plus
E-Mart
Convenience stores
Stationery stores
Book stores

Just ask for "baduk ban" and the clerk will take you directly to the thing. Don't forget to purchase a set of white "baduk al" and black "baduk al" either.

Really? Home plus is here? Strange. I went to a few book stores around Itaewon only to find books, oddly, so Emart will be my next venture!

Get away from Itaeweon and you'll find what you're looking for. Smile

Home Plus also sells what they call "Ka-la Ba-duk" (Color Go) stones (blue and green). I have a set of those in addition to the traditional black and white because some of my friends and I like to play multi-player Pente when we want a break from go.

Here is the Korean Baduk Association's website in English.

By the way, you may wish to learn to play Korean Chess. It's a great game too. Jang-gi is similar to Chinese Chess but with some important differences in movement and checkmate/stalemate rules.
