Are hagwon's considered an accredited institution? I was reading the SMOE pay scale. After working in a Hagwon for one year and having my TESOL certificate would I be considered a level For G.

If you have a certificate of employment (to confirm that you worked there) then the government agencies will give you credit for a year in a hakwon.

You will also get a bump for the tesol cert as long as it was longer than 100 hours.

so it's longer than 100hrs or is a 100hr course enough?

I know for a fact that GEPIK and EPIK accept the 100hr TESOL cert even though the contract says "more than".

I suspect the other POE programs are the same.

I'm going to make an official complaint to GEPIK, EPIK, and POE about this. We shouldn't get a bump on pay for having 100hr tesol/tefl cert. Razz

IF it is licensed by the POE then it is accepted as a school and school expereince when applying for a PS position in Korea.

Accreditation does not always reference quality - just physical, licensed, government approved, presence.

American teachers in hagwons don't get a tax exemption their first two years working in Korean, and the reason for this is that hagwons are not accredited institutions, correct?

Nope...

PUBLIC schools and PUBLICLY funded universities and research facilities foreign staff get the 2 year tax break (with the exception of Canadians).

PRIVATE schools, universities, hakwons, etc. do NOT get the tax break for their staff.
