North Korea torpedoes a ship. Kim Jong-il departs for China. The North has suffered several crises lately. The country is going nowhere fast. South Koreans are in denial and in no way ready to fight a war. The US military are tied down elsewhere.

I'm personally more worried than I have been. I've transferred almost all my money out. I've stocked up. I won't be going near any military bases in the next week. Am I mad?

It was most likely a mine that sunk the ship, not a torpedo... And they're saying it's more than likely that it was left over from the 50s...
Kimmy in China would be easier to kill than if he were in NK...

Don't think it's time to start packing up just yet... I was more worried when the US and Japan were talking about shooting down the Nork's "satallite" last year...

Eventually it's bound to happen, as long as Kim Jung Il is still alive. I have no doubt that if he were to live forever, eventually something would set it off and it'd be World War III.

There's something to worry about every year. Some incident happens, people speculate about possibilities of war etc.... it's an annual thing.

If the unthinkable did happen (eg an attack on S.Korea/Seoul) then there'd probably be no warning, therefore no chance of getting out safely. Millions would instantly perish. N.Korea wouldn't give any notice.

Just enjoy yourself while you're here, live your life and try to achieve your goals. Personally I think the chances of a N.Korean attack at any time are extremely low, but then what do I (or indeed anybody really) know about it?

YES!! WORRY and PANIC! may as well book your ticket.

or you could think about it for a second. it's never going to happen. China supported N.Korea in the korean war, those days are over. If it happens, N.Korea will cease to exist. Sure, there will be alot of damage in Seoul, but the regime will end. SouthKomerica will be extended up to China's border, and China doesn't want that. Plus China and America's economies are too intertwined now to be fighting.

I guess there's the possibility that kimjungil is just nuts, and attacks without daddy China's consent or support. But that's suicide. They want their regime to continue up there.

Defense Minister Kim Tae-young said Friday that the more-likely cause of the Cheonan's tragic sinking was a torpedo attack rather than an underwater mine.

"Both torpedoes and mines are possible causes of the sinking. But I believe that there is a higher chance that torpedoes were the cause," Kim said at a National Assembly session.

As somebody else would say - the only way it would start is if Jongy decides he wants to die.

NK have the 5th or so biggest army in the world, but it's largely 1950's equipment. And SK's is like the 6th biggest, with modern tech.

I'm going to the DMZ in a couple of weeks. That should be fun given the latest threats.

North Korea may have the 5th biggest army but when was the last time they were in a fight?

America, UK, Canada and possibly a few others have been in Iraq and Afghanistan gaining experience fighting.

North Korea are [Mod Edit] . All America and the rest have to do is pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan and focus their efforts elsewhere.

I fail to understand how a seamine has been floating free in the area for 60 years without detonating. The area is a busy sealane: not only with fishermen, but also military boats and passenger ferries. it would have at least been detected. Decades ago.

If free-floating it would have been washed down out of the yellow sea within weeks and into the pacific.

I was out with a friend of mine, a real "Korea for the Koreans" kind of guy, "best in the world" and all that. I asked him what he thought happened to the ship:

"Somebody f-d up." No conspiracy theories. No misplaced anger.

I think you're a bit mad. If you want to live your life in fear, that's your business. It's not a choice I would make. Whatever will be, will be.

Mine breaks free of its tieoff and floats away?...

As for the other poster quoting the Korean Times (Korea's BEST new agency you know... Razz)

http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5gEqmiVugdSygiB00CCjqBUEcykSg

Quote:
WASHINGTON A senior US official on Monday doubted that North Korea was involved in the recent sinking of a South Korean warship, in which dozens of crewmen are missing.....
However, Defense Minister Kim Tae-Young said a drifting North Korean mine dating back to the 1950-53 war might have caused the blast, or the North might have intentionally sent a mine floating towards the ship.

if the rhetoric escalates a bit more does it mean that half the newbies will flee the country and we can have a decent job market again?

US Navy Trident Sub on patrol, sea of Japan 24/7, lots of nukes on board, North Korea targeted in its computer. North Korea is all talk if they do something, its the end, they know that, don't worry. The Dear Leader wants to keep his power as long as he can.
