|
|
I'd like to go to Japan this summer with a friend, but I'm wondering if this is a reasonable price - seems so expensive! If I factor in hotels, food, etc...
NH6986 SA 05JUN ICN-HIJ 1835-2000
** OPERATED BY ASIANA AIRLINES
NH 674 MO 07JUN HIJ-HND 0900-1020
NH1293 TH 10JUN HND-GMP 1535-1755
=>Current airfare : 706,900won+tax(about 93,500won)
My friend wants to go to Hiroshima. I would like to stay a little longer so that I can go to Tokyo...
Is there another way to travel in Japan cheaper (go to another interesting city instead of Tokyo, take the train beteen cities instead of flying...)? Any experienced Japan-travelers out there? |

For getting into Japan:
Airfare -
Jeju Air flies to Osaka (but not Tokyo). Can be under 300,000 roundtrip if booked in advance. Or even about 200,000, I think. www.jejuair.net
If you or a friend can navigate a Korean-language site (also Internet Explorer only btw), www.072.com should have quite a bit better prices into Tokyo.
Also - you could take a 3 hour ferry from Busan to Fukuoka, Japan. That's about 200,000. http://www.jrbeetle.co.jp/english/index.html
I always read the cheapest way to travel between Japanese cities (sans the bus) is to purchase a foreigner-only rail pass. Though I've never done this. Keep in mind the pass must be purchased outside of Japan.
Er...in general the top 3 cities to visit are Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka. Kyoto & Osaka are under 60 minutes away from one another via train or subway. Equidistant to both - is Nara, Japan. Often overlooked, but fun for a day.
I've only been to those 4 cities mentioned above. Offhand, I'd rank them as Kyoto - Tokyo - Osaka/Nara |

Jeju Air is a good suggestion. They also fly to Kitakyushu, which is much closer to Hiroshima than Osaka, although not every day - perhaps 2 or 3 times a week.
Even better might be to take the daily overnight ferry (leaves about 7pm, arrives about 8am in both directions) from Busan to Shimonoseki. It's a little cheaper than the 3 hour jetfoil to Fukuoka and the arrival point in Japan is much closer to Hiroshima. Shimonoseki is barely an hour away from Hiroshima. The ferry is also less susceptible to weather cancellations than the jetfoil.

Not much English on either I'm afraid. |

| Thanks for the suggestions! Looks like I could go to Japan for half the cost. You both are much better than the travel agent^^ |

You can get train prices for travelling around Japan here
http://www.jorudan.co.jp/english/
just type in the start and end location and it will give you some options for cheapest and fastest and easiest way to travel and the prices. (Shimonoseki to Hiroshima is 6490yen).
The Japan rail pass is worth buying if you are going a fair distance on the Shinkansen (fast train). When I investigated a return from Tokyo to Osaka was worth buying a rail pass but going only one way was not.
Another cheap way to travel around Japan is by night bus or by slow train (especially if you are there during the periods when the Seishun kippu 18 is valid - see http://wikitravel.org/en/Seishun_18_Ticket). |

| I took the ferry from Busan to Fukuoka, then a ~50 USD bus ride to Hiroshima. While there, I'd highly recommend the island of Miyajima at the end of the tram line. Really liked it there. |
