i'm trying to get my CRC notarised before i take it down to the FCO.
i've called the couple of notary publics around me and the cheapest i was quoted was 100 + vat. complete joke.
i have read about the notary public near the FCO in milton keynes, and was wondering if anyone notarised a document there and if so;
was the turn around quite fast [i'll take the train to milton keynes and i'd like to spend as small an amount of time there as possible - get it notorised and apostilled in the same day]
and
how much did it cost?
i also know that there is one in london that does it for a fiver. worst comes to the worst i'll go there. |

I ran into the same problem whilst doing initial research. 120 for 2 documents was the cheapest quote I received when asking about documents being notarised.
However when I asked around for a document to be signed by a solicitor the prices were more in the 10 range.
What I want to know is, what the hell is the difference (apart from the massive price gap) between getting a document notarised or simply getting the same document signed by a practising solicitor, and does it make any difference with regards to the FCO apostile situation?
A first guess would be that we are all being peddled some duff (and potentially very costly) info concerning all the "legalspeak" nonsense. |

hey, i did the milton keynes trip today. that place is pretty depressing. definitely bring yourself a good book. i was in and out in just over one and a half hours. the longest bit is actually having to wait before you even give them your documents - that took an hour. i did go right at lunchtime though so might be quicker earlier in the day.
not sure how long the notarisation will take - best to phone the solicitors beforehand if you're worried about waiting times. i went to one in london and i just walked in off the street and luckily there was a solicitor free. all they do is sign and stamp it - it takes about a couple of minutes. |

thanks for the feedback, i've finally found out names and then the correct number for the one round the corner from the FCO.
the bloke who can do is on holiday until monday. its a nice 20. it'll cost me more to go into london and then back to milton keynes so it looks like i'll have to remember to take a sarnie and a paper by the sounds of it! |

Thought as much. I'll just have to make sure I stay away from using the word "notarised". |

So not a place you can make a weekend out of?
I think I'll probably send mine off by post when the time comes.

I think I'll try and get my degree done in the next couple of days via the "walk-in" method and hope I get lucky.
I take it that it's just a standard black & white photocopy of my degree that I need to get signed and stamped. |

ha, well at the train station there are loads of displays up about the many improvements taking place in milton keynes so perhaps i'm doing it a disservice!
i would definitely just post it though. there's a 48 hour turnaround and a couple of people on here have attested to the fact that the postal route is really quick, i'm just a little ocd when it comes to things like this so just preferred doing it all myself with no royal mail to have to rely on. they stole (ok, probably just lost) my lovefilm dvd recently so i don't trust them with my precious documents!

yep, in fact the solicitor did the photocopy for me. and it was black and white. so black in white in fact that the crest/badge of my uni has come out as a giant black blob so you can't see it at all. |

I came over to Korea around 10 months ago now. One thing I learnt when I was applying is that when you call to order your CRC you can ask them to have the head of the department sign it. This is the same as having it notarised. This will save you time and money because you won't need the services of a solicitor. |

As the cost of visiting Milton Keynes is astronomical (and it's a piss poor place to visit) I'm going to apply by post.
For those that have done this, is it the Milton Keynes address you have to send to, as when you click "contact us" on the main FCO site it lists a London address. I'm trying to double check everything as I don't want any costly *beep* ups. Cheers! |

you are wise not to go. milton keynes is a really weird place. i was done within 45 minutes though, so i went to this all you can buffet place where you can unlimited sweets, amongst other things. not bad.
anyway. the address of the actual walk-in FCO is on silbury blvd, MK9. |

I am planning to go to Milton Keynes to get my documents sorted, but having been there once I'd rather not if it's not vital. I do have a friend there though so it might be surviveable!
Is it just a case of taking a copy of the degree cert and CRC to the MK office? When I asked the local notary public they asked for proof of address/ID etc before they would notarise the docs. Is it the same requirement for the solicitors in MK? |
