I feel like I've been asked to bring in my passport and ARC at least three times.
Today on coolmessenger I get a message from someone "in charge of education statistics" asking me when my birthday was, how long I've been teaching at this school (uh, 6 months!!!), how many hours I teach per week, and even my salary.
They have this information!!! Ask the person with the copy of my contract!!! |

Just expect this to happen at least 2 or 3 times a year. |

My previous co-teacher had a nice file made up of all that info. My new co-teacher came to me asking some trivial piece of info, I directed her to the file. The response.....
"What file?" |

Two years ago, my coteacher started cursing as she hung up the phone. I asked her what was wrong and her response was, "Those morons keep NOTHING!" She was referring to the admin types at the city's office of education, of course. Like Senior's previous coteacher, this one had a file of every document that concerned me. My coteacher this year is learning fast that she needs to do the same thing and to also ask pertinent questions before doing the Korean/Pavlovian reaction. That's because I refuse to give any information without answers to "Who wants it? Why do they want it? What will they do with that information?"
The funniest thing about all this is that a few years ago, the NEIS program was supposed to be altered to make all this stuff simple for everyone involved: pay personnel, administration personnel, supervisers, and even us foreign teachers, and it was supposed to restrict the information to only people whose duties actually required such knowledge. I've never been able to get the program to work for me nor have any of the foreign teachers I personally know in my city.
I was hoping this year would be different and the program would work. Alas, it doesn't seem like it will.

Monthly. Evidently, there is a monthly report to include the following:
- GET's hours taught per week for that month.
- GET's salary.
- Overtime hours worked.
- Number of students in "after-school" or "camp" classes taught by the GET.
- Certificates (such as TEFL) earned since last report, if applicable.

Want to have some fun with the coteacher? Point to the notice on the cool messenger itself about privacy act (yes, Korea actually has such) information! |

My school has been trying to get me hooked up with the NEIS program for a month now. It's not working, and no one knows why. Our computer guy, who's really kind of useless, can't seem to figure it out. Yesterday he suggested that I'd signed up for the program previously, but it's my first gig in a PS, so that's not the case. I had actually no idea what it's for anyways, so I wasn't stressing too much about it. I asked them what it does, and someone mentioned that teachers can communicate with the parents through the program, and I suggested that maybe they don't want me to be doing that... I sometimes tend to react to things first, and then think about it later... This might not be so popular with the parents. |
