Half the yelling I do in class is getting the kids to put away their damn Yu Gi Oh cards. I began to think, how could I use this fascination with these kinds of games to teach something in my class. And then I also noticed kids have a heck of a time with prepositions.

Anyway, I created this simple Yu Gi Oh like card game that makes teams build S-V-O sentences, requiring them to fill in the proper articles and prepositions. I play tested it a bit with a couple classes the other day and got reasonably good feedback.

Anyway, here's my game so far:

Shocked Wow!
Looks like you really put a lot of effort into it.
Hope it's a hit with the students.

Actually I kind of banged it out over a couple days sitting in Starbucks. I played it with some classes this week and I think they sort of liked it. Some of the older/advanced classes I think began to grok the strategy.

My theory is kids play these games and all know by heart that the Ice Wand of Totlmak can be played against the Fire Demon of Gronk and the Bard of Ha Ho Land is affected by a Spell of Stage Fright Gas... but "going to new york" or "going from new york" is a mystery to them. So if you make it a game...
