Just got through speaking with one of my friends in Jinhae, the teacher that replaced me at my old hagwon (I moved on to greener pastures in the Public School) and she found out my old boss won't pay for her airfare home (she leaves in 10 days) and didn't give the government her deductions (yep, he put them in HIS pocket). On top of that, 4 teachers have been fired in hagwons in Jinhae (there are only 11 NETs in Jinhae in the hagwons). All four were not given their airfare home. So, word to the wise, as I mentioned before, there are some serious changes going on in the hagwon industry (or should I say, "used car lots?") Beware of NETs that tell you, "Oh, my hagwon is great, you'll love it there!" Ask them, "Then why are YOU leaving if it's so great?" Feel free to share yet another nightmare, adventure-gone-bad at the hagwon here. Yeah, 4 out of 11 teachers being given the boot in a six-week time frame is unusual even for hagwons. Tell me your story.

Have her report the hagwon to the appropriate authorities. The hagwon owner will get dinged for back fees plus fines, plus she'll get her pension.

We're working on it, my wife and I. I think one of the biggest problems we NETs have is we don't speak Korean well enough to navigate these legal waters, but my wife is Korean and a teacher, and she is calling some of the appropriate places. Hopefully, we can save her some grief.
