Would this video make you want to teach in Korea?

It doesn't really treat the applicants as adults or people with a professional bearing.

While we're not exactly professors par excellence, the application process that I've been going through for the past couple of months has reinforced my initial belief that going to Korea isn't just a hedonistic jaunt for a year with some inconvenient teaching tacked onto the side.

Is that video aiming to attract thoughtful, mature adults or frat boys looking to piss away their wages up and down the length of Hooker Hill?

Have to agree. This video focuses on the pleasure of living in Korea and treats teaching as a mere accessory. At moments, especially the beach scene, I thought I was watching a Spring Break advertisement for a holiday destination. Make money! Save! Party! Travel! Oh, and you'll have to teach too. Teach? The audience they want is clearly the just graduated student who wants to extend his or her "extracurricular" time for another year. And make money! And party! Get wasted! Mud wrestling! Oh yeah, baby!

It will definitely get a certain demographic interested. If that's what the school really wants.

Looks more like a vacation advert than anything else. How about showing some information about the schools, cultural life, etc....

Way outdated. It uses old Imac sound from the 90's. Well, it's art. I like it when others film themselves walking through Korea and focus the camera on themselves talking and then on what smells such as a garbage in the streets with chickens in a tiny cage in town as well as inadequate sewers that wreak of poo as you walk everywhere. Maybe the quality of life and environmental conditions need to be considered B4 considering the benefits of the job? Maybe many of us just suck up what sucks and drives on to get the benefits anyhow. Pew, it stinks bad here now the weather is warm. blooooo.

Yep it looks like a party ad aimed at the younger crowd. Isn't that what the majority of pf ESL teachers are here? In and out in a year or two...make some cash and have fun.

Looks like the video is aimed at the proper target to me.

Seriously? You want the guy to make a video aimed at the old guys/gals who account for about 15% of his $$?

I think that everytime Korean papers write slurs about the 'quality' of TEFL teachers in Korea - somebody should write to the editors and give them this video link.

Come on. Who the hell are they trying to attract with this sort of recruitment? If they want to attract drunken backpackers - this is a pretty good way to go about it.

And of course, the usual recruiter half truths (i,e, easy to travel to other countries in the weekend). Yeah right.

New people with no experience make approximately $2,000-$3,000 USD a month? Really? They start off making 2.2 million-3.3 million Won a month? And every job offers at least 14 days paid vacation in addition to National Holidays? Is that true? Also, those furnished apartments shown looked suspiciously big and flashed through more quickly than the other pictures.

Well I'm glad for the most part, that many agree that it is a bit too much.

I don't see it as "unethical" but I do think it approaches some ethical line.

I don't think you can avoid the fact that teaching does have some moral standards and this video really tramples over a lot of what hard working or more to the point, "dedicated" teachers espouse. I guess that is what happens when education and business mix. The lowest common denominator comes out and self policing bends to this (ie. $$$$).

I just think it unfortunate and wish that there were more policy and policing of this sort of thing. I guess the best we can hope for is to speak out and that might keep this at a minimum.

I got a laugh out of most of it but also had to stop and think that yes, there are probably a lot of teachers out there that would respond and get exciting by this kind of ad. That's life.

Well, I guarantee you that if any film or animation students looked at that ad (or anyone with epilepsy for that matter), they sure as heck wouldn't want to go through WorkNPlay.

Seriously, what was that?! A glorified, awful PowerPoint presentation with a song that annoyed me after 15 seconds? I wouldn't want to meet a person that actually found that ad to be any good. Sad

I found it to be an accurate representation of the life of a foreign teacher living in South Korea.

I think watching this video should be the only prerequisite for foreign teachers. It prepares them for the exciting and lucrative adventure of teaching in South Korea.
