So, I've got to design a test for the students. Thing is, there are hundreds and hundreds of them! And we don't have much time to test them. Shocked

So, I have to find a good method. How can I do this? Anyone have any idea?

I thought of testing them one by one, as I did with the elementary school students, but it takes so long to test them all... big lineups... short testing time, etc.

What if I were to put them in groups and submit some sort of group project?? Ideas?

Generally tests are a root of all evil in Korea. Any problem you have in the classroom can be quickly traced back to the test. A test is basically a great opportunity to empower yourself and push the idea of studying conversation.

Make a massive list of Wh questions starting out easy and getting much more difficult. Give a copy to all the students. Give them a period of time to study them.

Then interview the students one by one.

I just finished mine. I made up a list of about 10 questions we'd covered in class, covered them in class the week before with the students, and then had the tests this week.

Basically, since I had about ~1 minute with each student (~40 kids, 50 minute period) I just randomly chose one or two questions and asked them individually (outside of class, while the others stayed in the room studying).

Coordinating it was a little nightmarish, but I have good co-teachers so that was a huge help.

It worked well, or, as well as could be expected.

I had some 'sprited discussions' with my co-teacher when I arrived at this school. Apparently, I'm supposed to do hundreds of these speaking tests.
Their speaking test sounded more like a reading aloud test to me.

They weren't interested in hearing how these tests wouldn't improve the students' English speaking - they only wanted to 'show the POE that they were doing their job'.

It's test season soon. Nobody's said anything to me about speaking tests. Anyone care to bet on how much notice they'll give me to prepare and coduct the tests?
