I'm going on a trip to Hong Kong and Macau on the 19th.
I'm looking for not horrible hotels at ok prices. I'm also open to suggestions for things to do in both places. But hotels are a priority.
Thanks. |

I liked the Evergreen (3* - <500hkd) on the Kowloon side (includes a decent buffet breakfast as well) but there are lots of similar to choose from. I don't know about on the HK side of the harbor.
There are lots to choose from on the Macau side. Any of the new American hotel/casinos have nice rooms for about US$100 (less on the weekdays - more on the weekends).
There are cheaper ones but it is sometimes hard to find one with English when you get away from the big ones.

I like the Ramada, on the southeastern side of Kowloon. It costs me about US$80 per night, has good-sized rooms (not to be taken for granted in Hong Kong), solid quality, and an excellent location - walk to many museums, huge amounts of shopping, and the harbor ferry. |

Any advice on cheaper/cheapest places in the two? I'm heading there in September at the start of 6 months of traveling and a something to lie on is about all that is required. |

well you wont find anywhere cheaper than the places in/by the Chungking Mansions (google it)......I would however NOT recommend anyone stay there but if it`s cheapness you want, well...... |

Chungking isn't as bad as people say. It has some cons:
1. Slow and crowded elevators
2. Bad smell
3. Small rooms.
4. Annoying salespeople on the 1st floor.
Pros:
1. Safe (I think so, at least)
2. Cheap
3. great food and services in the building
4. Great location

better double-confirm your reservation at a hotel - HK is one of the places people are getting backed up trying to fly on to Europe due to the volcano
good luck! |

Use to live in HK and I think it depends on whether you want cheap or luxurious. I won't list the luxurious ones because they are plentiful and easy to find. Just search TST (Tsim Sha tsui) or Central.
Cheap:
Chungking
YMCA
YWCA
As far as Macao, don't even worry about booking a place ahead of time. Just go to the Ferry terminal in Central and you will see a bunch of people at the counter trying to get you to book hotels before you board. they have better rates and will even discount you the ferry ticket. The casinos have made going from HK to Macao virtually painless, even can be done at the dock (and should be because its cheaper).
