I was talking to hagwon about a position and the previous ESL teacher that worked there said that if they have him work less hour, they pay him accordingly. Is this how all Hagwons are or do some pay salary? The hours in the contract were ridiculous, but the pay was really high (2.4).

Yes, some hagwons pay by the hour, but most pay salary. I like hourly wages because your pay is proportional to the amount of work you do, but some people prefer the stability of a salary.

The only one that routinely does that is CDI and there are lots of stories on here if you scroll back a bit.

Unless things have changed recently, Pagoda pays by the hour.

I think that the vast majority pay a salary. Just a quick look through the job adverts here and elsewhere will show that.

If you are coming on an E2 visa, don't take hourly pay. It's too unstable. On an E2, you are limited to working at that one school. Some months the school will have less classes for you to teach (especially around high school exam times). Unless it's a big school and the hourly pay is VERY good, it's not going to be worth it. I wouldn't even consider it for less than 50,000 W/hour. And even then, I'd have something in the contract that stated that the school guaranteed at least a certain amount of hours per month.
