I just started this thread because I went to Hongdae and saw like a thousand people on the hipster bandwagon. It was pretty ridiculous, and most of these people were obviously total posers.
And well, let's be honest, there is something very annoying and obnoxious about the way hipsters these days carry themselves and act. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard, and I don't really know why.
Usually I just live and let live though  |

| There's no doubt that there's a wealth of poseurs, but OP is also a cliche himself: the bitter old scrooge who insists that his generation's music/culture/art was so much more authentic than the current generations. Get over it. How long have people been saying this? Baby-boomers say everything went downhill after the 60's. I'm sure some burn-out was saying the same thing about you when you were living your heyday. |

There are a lot of other movements and subcultures going on right now that are much more legit and have solid ideals and philosophies.
I'm talking specifically about this new hipster scene that's gotten huge in the past 5 years. I'm not talking about all of society in general. |

More specifically, go the the 'park' in Hongdae near Hongdae Entrance around 3 in the morning, and they are all there. I think they are nocturnal. |

I agree.
I'm into counter-culture myself and i'm all about challenging the norms and being progressive, and all that stuff.
But these people are just obnoxious. They are the kind of people you just want to punch in the head , and you don't know why. Just a gut feeling. |

What, did a hipster steal your girlfriend or something?
I mean, I like making fun of hipsters too, but I don't spend too much time worrying about it. I've even got some hipster friends.
You'd probably enjoy yourself more if you spent less time getting upset by how other people dress or whatever. |

In my day to day life hipsters don't bother me too much.
Sure, they are annoying and a bit silly, but i'm cool with them and there's no hate.
I think it's just because I was so into it about 15 years ago, and i've seen how it's morphed into what it is today. It's definitely made some strange changes.
These days i'm leaving all that stuff to the youngsters though. It's all about what you do and whats in your mind. |

I've given this some thought over the past few days. What's weird is how the word itself is such an insult. I think part of the reason you dislike them is because you have a word to call them. Otherwise you would be saying "I don't like those people who like stuff for the sake of being cool, or dress ironically, or listen to music that's hard to listen to, or think they're better than me..." But then if you said those things, it would be glaringly obvious that it's not about them at all, but that your anger comes from you and your inability to just ignore what other people do.
It's deeply odd, and don't forget what happened to those poor emo kids in Mexico.... |

I was never a hipster.
I was more like a hippy, but I hung out with lots of hipsters and saw what they were all about. And seen how it's changed.
Modern hipsters act like the spoiled rich kids of previous eras.
Maybe it does make me an old scrooge for noticing this, that's ok. |

| I get mad at stupid people, but they really don't bother me much. Just don't talk to them, simple as that. I get more pissed off walking into a bar and hearing a whole bar sing weezer or oasis, and having that high school feeling even though everyone is 30ish. Its like real life 90210. Man, Korea is really high school all over again if were sitting here hating on one specific group. Just ignore em, and rejoice that juggalos don't go to college |
