|
|
So I got my visa issuance number and now have to go through the process of getting the actual visa. Quick question for those who have gone through the process with the NY Consulate:
Is the visa given the same day or do you have to wait? How long did you have to wait?
I shouldn't and wouldn't care but my recruiter is asking me to speak with the travel agent this coming Monday to book my ticket. Additionally, I tried calling the Korean Consulate for clarification and got a busy signal one time and no answer another time... |

Zippy and I were in NYC last month for his visa interview*. We were there on Good Friday so maybe that's why they wouldn't make it the same day?
What you will want to do is have a FedEx envelope or mailing label ready (you can buy it and print it off online) for them to overnight your passport and visa back to you if you can't stick around to pick it up the next day. Two years ago, he picked his up later in the afternoon. Overnight FedEx was $32 to central PA.
Keep calling them to find out how they want to handle the passport return. They may let you get the overnight FedEx there in the office.
*AFTER having sent them his application papers/pics and passport which already has two E-2 visas in it, and a return envelope for them to send it back, they still insisted on a FTF interview. |

If you're there early and they're not too busy they may be able to get it back same day. Otherwise, 99% of the time they ship it out/have it ready the next day. If you live in the NYC area, it's as simple as coming back after lunch the next day for pickup. If you don't bring a prepay USPS or Fedex envelope with you for them to use. I did that and paid for priority overnight shipping. My interview was Wednesday, the visa was shipped Thursday and I had it in my hand on Friday. |

Thanks for the replies... I'll be going early in the morning, and hopefully I will be the first one there. I'll be able to stay around all day if they can do it the same day or could also pick it up later in the week. |

Prepare to be packed by the weekend because chances are they'll want you there by Monday. That's always been our experience. |

I'm packed and actually want to leave on Thursday so I get there Saturday and can have a couple of days to relax!
Update: My interview is in the afternoon so my visa will be ready tomorrow. Let this be a warning to others who want to get it done the same day: Make sure you call ahead and schedule an interview for early in the morning or they won't have it ready the same day! |
