Another one of these shows that tries to do way too much detailed plot lines that fall flat.

That and this show just isnt working for a number of reasons.

They are basically destroying the original mythos. The thing is about SUPERMAN, not the freaking Red Blue Blur. When he finally becomes superman he's gonna be "the Superhero formerly known as the Red Blue Blur"

Youve got him in love with Lois, fighting Zod, Jimmy Dead, all before he ever even becomes Superman.

He's fighting Zod, and still no superman. Etc

I mean the show started promising, showing what life would be like for Clark before Superman, but they have carried on the show way too long. If they want to keep it going they need to freaking make him Superman for god sake.

The producers have said :when Clark flies then the show will end" so now they are pretty much just holding this superpower back for no bloody reason other than to drag out the show.

While they are going through all these editors at the planet, heres an idea, HOW ABOUT PERRY WHITE for God's sake. They foreshadow him all the way back in like (what was it?) season 3 or 4

That and I am sorry, in A technology world I refuse to believe that they have not been able to track down Clark with a satellite image and get s snap of his face. Or that they have not caught him on a regular camera you know like standing, and then all of a sudden he flashed out of the picture like magic (wait wait, lets back that up and get a look at that guys face)

And how the heck is he ever going to actually assume the identity of Superman, when every single person knows his Clark Kent Face. I mean it's not as if he's wearing glasses for the last 9 seasons.

I mean this show is just too stupid for so many reasons, but the plot lines are just getting ridiculous, and the story arcs are not even interesting.

That and they have these hugs story arcs, but then every once in a while they just take a break and pit Clark against a totally unrelated villain for no real reason. (Kind of like last week where of course they just happen to stay at an inn where a painting is haunted by a Banshee)

Season 9 better be the end, but knowing the low bar set for shows, it will likely be green lit for a 10th 11th, and 12th season.

Actually bought Smallville: Seasons 6, 7 & 8 on blu-ray for $28 CAD each last night. Wal Mart yay! Very Happy

It's great that I can now buy complete seasons for the price of a new dvd or blu-ray movie. Just wait a while and yup it goes down. Casablanca on Blu was $30. Now, $12.83. I also snagged Hostage (Bruce Willis) for $8 on blu at HMV. Cheaper than the cinema.

I love Smallville, but I do agree with you on the fact that it's been going on way too long and there are times when I just say, "make him Superman already!" But then I think that would mean ending the show, and I really do love the show.

But honestly, there's only so much that can be done with the premise, and they've pretty much overdone it. They might have explored the whole Legion of Superheroes thing, especially the future kids thing, but they've only hinted at it, and they're moving onto Clark already doing a lot of stuff that he should have been doing as Superman, and that gets a bit strange.

Back in season 5 or 6 I said they should end the show, wait 2 years and then have a show where he's superman. with new supporting characters/villains.

From wikipedia:

Quote:
On April 3, 2008, after seven seasons with the show, Gough and Millar announced they would be leaving Smallville. The developers, after thanking the cast and crew for all their hard work, acknowledged they never stopped fighting for what they saw as "their vision" of the show. A specific reason for their departure was not given.[64] On March 26, 2010, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Millar and Gough, alongside co-producer Tollin/Robins Production, had filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. and The CW. The lawsuit contests that Hollywood's "vertical integration" cost the pair millions of dollars. The suit claims that Warner Bros. failed to "maximize profits" while marketing Smallville, misrepresenting production costs, and selling the show in foreign markets at "well below the value of the series". At this time, the lawsuit does not specify how much the plaintiff's are looking for in compensation.[65] On February 6, 2009, after only one season, the L.A. Times confirmed executive producers Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin would not be returning for a ninth season of Smallville; instead, the pair would take over The CW's new series Melrose Place. The Times also reported Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson would continue on as executive producers when Smallville starts its ninth season.[66] On July 24, 2009, it was announced Tom Welling had become a co-executive producer of the series.

The show went downhill bigtime when Gough and Millar left. It's basically a really bad version of Dawson's Creek now. Also, anytime a show starts a revolving door of producers pretty much says its circling the drain.

the OP's vehement stand about the demise of Smallville reminds me of the theme song to Mystery Science Theater 3000, the closing lines:

If you're wondering how he eats and breathes
and other science facts (la la la),
Then repeat to yourself, "It's just a show,
I should really just relax
For Mystery Science Theater 3000!

it is the longest running Superman show, and possibly comicbook show. in the history of television. They must be doing something right.

Now when is Lois doing a Playboy spread?

I tell you one thing. That Lois can sure take a knock on the head. Whenever she winds up in trouble, she gets knocked out, rescued, then comes to. Yet, no serious brain trauma despite been out for sometimes longer than an hour.

They WERE doing something right. Then the producers in charge of their initial success bolted. They've been carried along the last 2 years by inertia and nothing else.

Agreed, I have asked for the smallville DVDS for Christmas every year since it came on, I couldnt even be bothered to ask for season 8, it was pretty much garbage, and season 9 is pitiful at best.

I mean its not even unpredictable anymore, this last episode you have the "blur" drop a note off on Lois' desk saying "we have to meet" just after Martha tells clark that he should tell Lois who he is.

HMMMM I wonder if Lois is going to meet up with ZOD!!!!!

The second they brought Clark to Metropolis and DIDNT make him Superman this show basically died.

Sadly I keep watching it, but its more out of curiosity than enjoyment at this point.

They always said the show would end when they brought him to FLYING and he becomes Superman, you could have had a nice 6 or 7 season run with that, end on a high note, but they just keep dragging it out.

Just read on EZTV, that they're going to make a 10th season.

I agree the show isn't what it used to be. No Lex? Best character on the show.

The point made earlier about them keeping him from flying and becoming superman to prolong the show is on point. I hate when I can feel the writer in the room. That seems to happen more and more often now.

Smallville is fantasy, so of course it pushes the believable. Still, the show was straight forward enough at the beginning. Parents wanting to protect their child. A boy who was different wanting to fit in. Well, he isn't a boy anymore. It is time to man up, or superman up in this case.
