Hi guys,

Right now Im working at a hagwon, and it sucks. Ive been there almost 2 months, and Id like to change to something else within the next 2 months. Ive heard that if you break contract and change to a public school, its easier with immigration...in regards to the release letter and so on. Is that true...does anyone have any personal experience with this type of situation...

Thanks

It is possible. I've done it. You do need a letter of release from your current employer in order to proceed in this way. You'll take your letter of release from the hagwon, your signed contract from the public school, your passport, ARC, and some money (I don't recall what the fee is to change visa sponsor) to the immigration office with jurisdiction over the area your new school is located within. Immigration likely will not extend your visa yet. However, when you get to within 30 days of your visa's expiration date head back over to immigration and apply for an extension to cover the remainder of your contract's duration.

Best of luck to you.

thanks for the advice climber. so it seems to be pretty much the same procedure for going from hagwon to public school as it would be to just go to a different hagwon. i remember reading somewhere awhile ago that it was easier to change to a public school. seems like that might not be the case.

Well, if I recall correctly, you must have completed 6 months of your current contract before you may transfer to a different employers. Immigration ignored this stipulation in my case. That may be the "easier" part when moving from a hagwon to a public school.
