Hi Everyone!
Does anyone have any book suggestions for refreshing my knowledge of English? I heard that Practical English Usage by Michael Swan was good.
I was also thinking of getting beginner and intermediate ESL texts for reference later on (namely the Practice Makes Perfect series). However I don't want my luggage to be weighed down by so many books. Is there a Holy Grail of ESL text books out there that I can pack?
Thanks in advanced |

Swan is good as a reference but not exactly bedside reading.
Check out Jeremy Harmer, "How to Teach English." |

Yeah. I got hold of that Swan book recently as it seemed it was the standard recommendation, but I really don't like it. |

Some really good books that I use most of the time:
1. Grammar in Use (by Murphy, Redman et al)
2. Learning Teaching (Scrivener)
3. Practical English Usage (Swan)
4. Grammar for English Language Teachers (Parrott)
5. 700 Classroom Activities (Seymour)
These are really useful books and I would recommend that you invest a little for future development. |
