http://www.rjkoehler.com/2010/05/14/korean-middle-school-student-falls-to-her-death-after-being-raped-and-robbed/

MS student raped, robbed and killed.

Quote:
The girl had the misfortune of meeting the two boys while on her way home from Namsong Station (line 7). The boys accosted her at first claiming that she resembled someone who had stolen their motorcyle and insisted that she follow them to an apartment complex some 1.5 kms away to verify if she was the culprit. Yeom stayed on the first floor to keep watch as his younger friend, Lee, took the girl up to the machine room on the roof of the building (23 floors) by the emergency stairwell. There, Lee raped and sexually molested her for almost an hour before the girl was able to break away and try to escape. Lee pursued her and the girl slipped and fell from the roof to her death.

I'm always amazed when I see 2nd and 3rd grade elementary students walking home alone. Usually when I see a particularly small child walking alone (especially in bad weather) from after-school classes (5:30 is end time) I usually walk with them until we get to their block. It'd be weird going to their home, but I can at least make sure that they get home safely.

So sad and a tradgedy.

As for young kids walking home alone, my nieces and all their friends are elementary school students. They walk home from school all the time. The oldest is 10 and she makes sure her two younger sisters are ok as they walk home.

They have lived in the same neighborhood since their birth and everyone knows everyone so people look out for each others kids.

When we lived in Haeundae (Busan) the same phenomenon could be observed.

Back here in Canada, its not the same. Fear is the order of the day with little kids and people do not really look out for one another.

Very different situations.

That is really, really scary and sad. Hard to believe that someone that young could do such a terrible thing and then not even show any remorse. That poor girl and her family ...

I deeply hate reading these stories, and yet they happen so often...everywhere. Life can get scary that way... Poor poor little girl, I feel so sad for her. I can only wish the worst for those boys Sad
