Hi,

Does anyone know whether I need to have the copies of my degrees and my original criminal record check signed by a notary public?

The UK FCO will accept the signature of a solicitor to legalise these documents.

But what about Korean Immigration - do they specify that you need a notary public's signature and not just a solicitor?

would appreciate any advice.

There seems to be a lot of contradictory advice regarding the criminal record check and whether it needs to be signed or not. I got it done anyway. I believe that if it's a copy then it must definitely be signed.

I seem to recall that it just needs to be signed by a notary public. It's probably best just to get a solicitor who is a notary public to do it just to cover yourself.

WARNING: Mentioning the N word in a solicitors office is likely to land you with an 80+ fine.

Just get it signed for a fiver instead. It was good for me and most other UK residents on here.

Thanks guys,

I've just got the back from Milton Keynes this morning. I've already had them signed by a solicitor, who did it for free.

Hope they're going to be alright - I can't seem to find any definite details - the links on the Korean Embassy's site don't work.

If your's was ok with the solicitor's signature though, mine should pass too. I just feel that you never know what a bureaucrat is going to object to, the whole thing is like some kind of Kafkaesque nightmare.

I've been worried about having to send for another CRB check and three more apostilles at the last minute, which would cost another 120 quid and probably mean I'd be too late for SMOE.
