I am currently working at a Public School and have been here for 15 months. On August 17th I will start a new job at a private school and I have resigned from my current school as of July 31st 2010.

I know what documents I need to do a transfer but I have one or two questions I need to ask, any help would be really appreciated.

1: How far ahead of the actual change date can one go to Immigration and do all the necessary paperwork? My transfer would be in August, if I get a LOR now, could I go and sort everything out now?

2: I resigned from my school from 31st of July but the new job starts August 17th. Is that too long a gap? Would it matter if my school wrote my last day was the 16th August on the LOR if I actually left them earlier?

3: Does one have to attend the immigration office with staff from the previous school when transferring workplace?

I changed work places last July, so I'll tell you what I can remember.

First, I went to immigration WAY too early. In order to go ahead of time, you have to have an address in the new location. I did not have that. If you are living in the same location, then you don't need too I would think...

Second, you cannot do the 'change of workplace' unless the contract dates are back to back. That is the situation I had to deal with. Otherwise, it is just a regular new E2 visa, new criminal background check, etc.

Finally, you don't have to go to immigration with staff; although I found it helpful. Make sure you get the "business certificate" or whatever paper says that they are a real institute. That was hard for me to get to prove, which I think is why its helpful if a person goes with.

Hope that helps! And when in doubt, just call immigration. I talked to them like 50 times before I went in.
