|
|
I just started working at a hagwon and they said they will hold my diploma until the end of my contract. There is nothing in my contract that mentioned this and I am not comfortable with it. I don't want to kick a hornet's nest, I just want my diploma. What should I do to get my diploma without rocking the boat too much? |

Say you need it to apply for graduate school or something to that effect.
Or just tell them to give it you since it's your property and they have zero right to retain it. |

Go into your director's office while he's there and start going through your papers. "What are you doing?" "Getting my diploma back." "I told you we need to keep it until the end of your contract." "I heard you." "So what are you doing?" "Getting my diploma back." "Why?" "It's mine." "I told you we need to keep it until the end of your contract." "I heard you." "So what are you doing?" "Getting my diploma back." "Why?" "It's mine." "I told you we need to keep it until the end of your contract." "I heard you." "So what are you doing?" "Getting my diploma back." "Why?" "It's mine." |

It is illegal for him to have it, and it is ilegal for him to hold it. it is your document and is needed to OBTAIN your visa.
Also be aware that you will want to get out of the school as soon as you get the Diploma, you are in for some Shady business goings on |

Hypothetically, how do I switch jobs? I thought you had to wait until the visa ran out. How quickly can it be accomplished? |

Then don't get up in arms talking about switching schools just yet. Maybe once you speak to him he'll give it right back. In my first year, my old school held onto my diploma and I got quite worried about it. Finally I just went and asked for it and they gave it right back with a smile.
In the end I felt stupid for reading threads like this and getting so worried about it when I all needed to do was talk to the guy who has it in the first place. Who knows, maybe it'll work for you, too. |

I have heard about issues with late payment and the like. There have been a few red flags and I just want to be prepared for anything. |

Tell the thief that you'll have to break his limbs one at a time until he returns your diplma. No ands or buts. Simple as that. |

Go in on Monday and inform whoever is in charge of you that your diploma is your diploma and you want it back. Don't yell don't lose your cool, but be stern. Tell them if they wish to make a copy to show the parents that would be perfectly fine. If they refuse inform them that you will be going to the local police station to file a report for the theft of your diploma.
Schools will do this because they think that if they hold your documents you won't do a runner. There is no reason for them to hold your diploma. |

I disagree.

About what? How I felt and what happened in my situation?
What an asinine thing to say. |

I disagreed with your suggestion. I misquoted. I think you know that. |

Have your mom call the school and insist they give it back. That might be quite interesting. |

That's what edit buttons are for.
And you disagree with my suggestion about asking for the diploma instead of getting ready to flee the school? Wow. The asinine part still fits. |
