Political program aside, the types of individual you find supporting the Tea Party are complete loons

As inidividuals they're just total nutters. It's almost impossible to have any kind of reasoned discussion with them.

they're generally all a bunch of ignorant hicks.

None of you have any idea what you're talking about. You have allowed a hostile establishment to mold your opinion.

Gotta agree with mises here. The bigotry shown here is outstanding.

They disagree with your base political philosophies. You have to man-up and accept that fundamentally disagreeing with someone is neither insanity, ignorance, nor bad. It's natural.

Demeaning someone doesn't in any way address their argument. In fact, it just makes you look like an asshole. With all due respect the quoted posters who are otherwise fine company.

Ach don't take my comments to heart. I'm just yanking a few libertarian chains.

Edit- actually I do know.

Bloody loon. *mumble mumble*

Take a good look at their mascot: Sarah Palin

Don't tell me this group isn't missing a few marbles.

Lobbying in America can never go because it is so entrenched in our political culture. Presidents have had their terms due to how popular they were with the lobbies (lobby = money). Any group with cash can make a "donation" to a political figure and they know how to play ball if they want the dollars to keep rolling in. Sarah knows this, Rand Paul too. , There are things which America shouldn't be involved in: Defense, Israel, coporate tax breaks, etc, yet due to lobbies they won't be going any time soon.
This is one sad reason why:

I don't have a problem with people with different views than my own. I think they're wrong but I don't think they're evil or bad. However, the Tea Party people are on another level. They don't have a position, or at least they don't understand what position they do have.

And, again, it's not about lower taxes or health care or anything like that for most of the supporters. It's about the Democrats and specifically Obama. My work computer doesn't show urls, but type "Pensacola Tea Party 4-15-09" into youtube. You'll see a guy explaining that there was a budget surplus in 2000 followed by a record defecit in 2008. He also says if you make 250k or less (seemingly everyone at the rally) your taxes will go down. He is booed and shouted down off the platform. Why? Because those were Republican years and it's the Democrats that's lowering taxes. You could say the people just don't believe him. But it's demonstratably true, anyone with an internet connection or a reasonable grasp of history can confirm it, so people who say they're part of a tax protest should probably be aware of these things. And their goal might be to rid Washington of lobbyists, but supporting insurance companies over the public option is hardly the way to do it.

Are some people who call themselves Tea Partiers more educated? Sure, I have no doubt. But they certainly haven't done a good job of stating their objectives clearly or educating the masses. And when your leaders include Palin, Limbaugh and Beck no one is going to listen to you. It has nothing to do with what they say, which is offensive jibberish anyway, it's the fact that they are mentally unstable. I actually agree with some of their points, but they don't really believe them or understand their own positions enough to take seriously at all. They're victims being manipulated by the very people they think they're fighting. And for that I think most of them are stupid and the exact reason nothing will ever change.

I'm not saying lobbying has to go but that doesn't mean the current situation can't be improved. Right now the voters' interests are not being served, so no wonder so many people think democracy is a big joke. Something has to change, whether that means regulating lobbying, voters organising themselves, a new party, or whatever.
