So my director came up to me today in typical Korean fashion letting me know that next week I will be cooking with all the elementary classes, and that I should divvy up lists for the kids to buy food, and come up with a game plan (even though I've already seen half my classes of the week already, and have no way of doing the list making with them...).
I really have no idea what to expect, and I'm sure I'll get the hang of it around the last day of the week, but has anyone had any experience with "cooking week" or cooking classes in hagwon? What's the basic run down of the lesson? As far as I know, we'll be cooking Korea food, voted on by each class. Thanks in advance. |

Why don't you ask your school for more information since they would know best?
In my experience when there was a lesson on cooking it was pretty basic things like making sandwiches or kimchi. My friend just did a cooking class making bacon and eggs.
You just show them all the food, say what each ingredient is called and explain the directions step by step. It's easy and fun and they'll be eating so hopefully their mouths will be too full to talk. |

hi.
check somewhere on Daves Esl... there's cooking terms very useful for teaching day to day terms used when cooking like chopping, braising, cutting, sauce, etc... you can think of a few also and maybe Google the rest. have fun introducing your favorite sandwich or meal (check out YouTube for an easy recipe) and get the kids to bring the ingredients - that way you get to eat your favorite meal at school/hagwon... hehe. also be sure to print out the lists(recipe and vocab) and distribute it. i had fun doing this and everyone was super-impressed with some western dish as well...

I've never had this before at a hogwan. I'd like it if they DID have something like this. Sounds better than the book any day.
If you need ideas on what to make, just go with soup. Ask the kids what they need for kimchi soup, a hotdog, a hamburger, sandwiches, fruit salad, etc. Even the someone with no culinary skills at all can make a ham, lettuce and tomato sandwich. |
