I'm about 4 months away from being done with two years with EPIK. I got my pension and bonus from my first years months and months ago, though it took a lot of bugging them to do it. That said, what about when you leave the country at the true end of your stint? Will there be, say, a few months delay and will they need constant badgering to put it through? Same with airfare. Has anyone ever gotten theirs on their last payday? I know tax has to go through the IRS first, so that will take some time.

First off, you shouldn't have collected your pension from your frist year since you were staying in the country. You are supposed to receive it after you leave the country for good and it's the pension office that pays you.

With severance (you call it a bonus), again, it is supposed to be paid after you leave your job, not yearly. It probably took so much time because the school was trying to follow the rules.

As for your ticket, just have them buy it and then you won't need to worry about being paid back.

I have no clue what IRS thing you are talking about.

Technically oskinny1 is right, but my school paid my severance a day after my first year contract ended. I guess it all depends on your school administration.

Where in the contract does it state that severance is not paid yearly? Does that mean, that if I were to finish three years with a school in EPIK, that I would get three years worth of severance at the end? My contract states:

"Upon completeion of a one-year contract, Employer shall pay Employee an extra 30 days' average wage as a severance pay for Employee's coninuous employment of one year."

It is not stated in the renewal section of the contract that renewal would mean that the severance is not paid out.

I've had two different jobs in Korea before this one where the severance was paid out at the end of each contract, usually with the next pay period that follows the renewal.

Pension is paid at the end of your all the years you worked in Korea. Severance is usually paid after each year but it can accumulate over the years if you'd prefer.

Yeah, my bad on the wording, I meant the one month severance. I got my first year a few months after renewal as did everyone I know at the end of their first year. Anyway, I ask due to multiple things, really. I plan on living in Thailand for a few months after my time here is up and don't wanna be screwed by what might be a very bad exchange rate transferred twice, once to America on the initial payment and once more to get it to me in Thailand. Not that there is much to be done, really. Shame they don't just scale your contract work days to the nearest payday and deposit it with your last months pay. Seems a million times easier for them and us.

The American full tax refund. We get two years totally tax free working abroad if it's under $80,000 per year. You think the IRS doesn't sniff that money long and hard to make sure it's clean before they let it get to you?

Yeah, I lucked out on this one. My contract is finished the day just before pay day. So, if I do not renew, I'm sure I'll probably still be in the country pay day. Very Happy
