Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and am still trying to figure out how to navigate around so I'm sorry if my questin has already has already been discussed (I'm guessing that it has). Anyways, I'm planning on moving to Seoul in about 3 weeks and am becoming nervous about tension between N. and S. Korea.
I've been getting VERY mixed opinions from friends about whether or not it's still safe to go and there's really not much in depth media coverage. My father thinks everything will be fine which kind of puts my mind at ease as he's been known to over-react once or twice . I'm just curious to hear opinions from people who have a better sense of the situation.
Also, I'm aware that the won has recently dropped in value. That hurts a bit, but it is not a deal breaker for me since I won't need to send money home on a regular basis. Thanks in advance for any insight you might have. |

As you indicated, there is a wide variety of opinions about what can or may happen. Anything is possible of course, but these tensions have been ongoing for 60 years now. There have been many skirmishes and cross border attacks since the end of the Korean war, but nothing has ever resulted in another full scale war. According to all the media reports I've been following, all the top analysts predict the same result this time around: Just more sanctions and threats of war, but no major combat operations. For me, the biggest thing that gives me reassurance is the Korean people's attitude on the situation. Every local I've ever talked to about this gives the same reply- they are not worried about anything happening and they are generally apathetic (at least in my experiences). Don't worry, come and enjoy your stay. Cheers |

Thanks TeeRev, it's nice to know that the Koreans are not too concerned about the situation. |

During the Sunday show of Alex Jones [www.infowars.com], he interviewed a source that stated that the fragments of the missile that hit the Cheonan was German based. The source also stated that Kim Jong took a train from Pyeongyang to Beijing and was interview by the Chinese government and he said that he had nothing to do with the attack on the ship.
So things appear to be a false flag attack, which means the Globalists could be trying to start World War III with North Korea and Iran; with America playing the victim again and leading the invasion initiative. |

Wow! So...one source that knows not only enough about South Korean intelligence to be able to get exact details (and I wager top secret details at that) about the missile that sank the Cheonan, but also is close enough to the inner sanctum in North Korea that the exact dialogue between Kim Jong Ill and the Chinese Government is known to them!! What a source! Every newsman dreams of having such an amazing source!
Who do you think started the first Korean War HlafJapanese? Was it the North or South?
America didn't 'play the victim' with World War 2. They were lazy and politically ignorant until the Japanese provoked them with the attack on Pearl Harbour. Far from playing the victim, they got stuck in and...it's fair to say...kicked a fair bit of what the American people call 'ass'. I don't really see how we will have a World War if North and South Korea have another go at each other. It's all just conspiracy theories and nonsense.
OP...these sorts of things have been happening here for a long, long, long time. There's no reason to suspect that this will become anything more than a lot of name calling.
I'm a coward...and I still live here |

I'm not worried. Whatever happens happens and there is nothing we can do about it. However, I do think that they can't keep up this false pretense of peace forever. At some point in time something has to come to a head; especially since the North is always begging for international attention. I don't think it will happen yet; probably sometime after the dear leader is laid to rest and his son's leadership skills are put to the test. |

Can you please put down your bong and explain to me (without laughing) how America plans to play the victim in this situation? |

I agree that they cant keep this up forever (by "this" I mean 2 Koreas). However, I dont think it has to end in bloodshed.
East and West Germany reunified without an active war. |

What does 'German based' mean? Modeled from a German design? Using German parts? |

HalfJapanese has a point. There is cause that the Globalists may be linked to this incident.
The US (a hideout for the Globalists) have a pattern. They start a war when they need something to take the attention off of domestic problems (i.e., economic woes). Wars bring in much need GDP boosting, and the US's presence in Korea only stands to benefit economically should a war break out on the peninsula.
Secondly, China is one of the only supporters of North Korea and the US has been applying pressure (intense pressure, recently) to revalue the RMB. This may be a force of intimidation to further the US agenda.
I'm not saying that any of my opinions are steadfast and complete; all I'm saying is that in the global political arena, governments do use unconventional tactics to get what they want.
Case in point: An attack in the waters off of Vietnam started the Vietnam/American war. This time is not any different. Things can happen, and humans have a bad reputation for not learning from past lessons. |

Well, the globalists are going to have to learn the difference between a missile and a torpedo before they successfully pull this off... |

I guarantee no one will predict when it finally breaks out into "all out war".
All the experts will be saying the odds are too low and everyone shouldn't worry, simply because they cry "wolf" way too ModEdit often.
You will not know the day or time, and now is just as good a time as any.
The law or large numbers dictates that it SOMETHING will eventually happen to end the war.

No present worries.
On another note, "Uptight Seattleite" is a fine moniker. |
