I just opened an account at the Itaewon branch because I wanted an international ATM card. I have two questions...

1. If you have one, does it say "card valid only in Korea" on the front of it? The woman at the counter swore to me that it would work overseas, despite what it says right on the front of the card. ...I'm a bit skeptical.

2. How much of a fee have people paid when using the card overseas (specifically in China)

Is it the purple global card with the Visa logo on it? If not, go back and get the expat global visa check card. Take the main headquarters KEB number with you. If you can't get the card, talk to the manager, if the manager gives you the runaround, call the main office.

It's purple, has a visa symbol, and it says "power check" on it. I got no runaround--they swear it will work overseas. I just think it's odd that it says "valid only in Korea" on the front of it.

Mine says "Global" on the front and it's worked overseas. It also says "Valid for overseas ATMs" in small print in the back.

I just checked their website....the purple one that says "global" on the front is in the credit card section.

Once you figure out if it is the right card, make sure you call them and have them authorize the card to work overseas. It is a really easy process that takes 2 minutes, but you have to do it to get the card to work. After it was authorized for overseas use I had no problems using it in Macau. I still have not checked the fees, but if no one can answer that questions I will look it up when I get home.

I just called the customer service center for the card. The woman told me that this card will work in ATMs overseas. The "valid only in Korea" is in regards to the check card purchasing.

She told me, though, that it will only work in ATMs if I signed up for the "foreign exchange regulation." I assume the bank did that, but I'll have to check.

I guess I won't really know until next month when I actually try to use it.

To be clear, do you have the "power check" card or the global card that Caffeinated has?

try asking about getting an actual credit card from KEB ...it's not hard to do and has worked overseas anywhere that I have been (both credit and atm)

I can verify that the purple Global Card does work overseas. Well, at least in Bali and the US. You can only use it as a Visa card in Korea, but I did take out money from an ATM in Bali and the US. Hope this helps.
