|
|
I have been keeping an active eye over the Philipinnes threads for the past month or two. I have also looked at different places on asiarooms and a few other sites.
Myself and my g.f are heading to the philippines on july 31st for 9 days. We are heading to Bohol (on the advice of Tompatz...thanks man)
We just want to relax somewhere quite nice with a pool and aircon. We don't want to stay in a dump for the sake of saving money but we also don't want to spend waaaaay to much on accom either. we are both mid 20s and just looking for somewhere to unwind near the beach for our time there.
Have any of you guys got any suggestions on some good places to stay, websites to view (most of the obvious ones have been tried, through googling for accom in Bohol). |

Ttompatz will probably recommend Alona Tropical.
I stayed at Bohol Diver's Resort. It was good, but there is a weakness to it. It's way on the edge of the beach, and that part of the beach disappears at high tide. It's about 5 minutes away from the real action on Alona.
Isis Bungalows looks really nice but it has no pool.
If you don't mind being a few minutes away from the beach, try Cherry's at Home. It's a 3-4 minute walk down a dirt road from the best part of the beach. |

If you want "RIGHT ON THE BEACH" with all the amenities (restaurant, included breakfast, and pool) AND decent rooms with decent pricing then Alona tropical is still the best bang for the buck on the beach.
There are many others (sans pool) that are also fine (but MOST do NOT have TV or phone).
Alona Kew is OK, as is Genesis divers.
For that time of the year it is usually NOT necessary to pre-book a room unless you want to book a specific room (like room 2,3,4 at Alona tropical (right on the sand - 10 meters from the water)).
Rates run from p1500 (bungalow on the beach - no aircon) - p5000 (aircon suite with satellite TV, IDD phone, fridge, etc).
Personally, I don't think aircon is necessary down next to the water (evening temps are in the low-mid 20s) but some people prefer it anyway.

what's the best way to go about getting a room? Should we book on the internet first or just show up and see what's available? what websites offer the best deals for down there?
Booking might be easier as it gives us the opportunity to either get picked up when we get to the bohol area or at least have an address to follow. |

http://www.bohol.ph/article75.html#panglao
gives the listings and contact numbers of the resorts down at Alona (Panglao island - it is joined to Bohol by 2 bridges)
.
they also have listings for other places on Bohol as well.
Most do NOT pick you up at the ferry or airport (unless you pay dearly for it).
Better to get a taxi from the pier.
Confirm the meter use or flat fare BEFORE you get in.
A meter taxi will cost you 1.5 times the meter rate (p250-300).
A trike is a bit of a chore (longish drive from the pier or airport) and slow.
A van should cost about p40-50 per person if they wait for a full load.
p600-800 if you want it for yourself.

When we went to Bohol we just took a motorbike to the beach and looked around. There were plenty of decent places available for pretty good prices. It's not a very big place, so even if you aren't RIGHT on the water, you'll be about 50 yards away... |

That looks like a nice place. Boring is okay for me and my g.f. we are looking to unwind away from it all for a week and just relax and do some diving, have a swim etc.
I checked out reviews on it and it seems like it is far away from any restaurant. what's the food like in the hotel (people seem to be saying it's nice) is it expensive for dinner there? oh, My g.f is allergic to fish would she be okay there? |

Sorry to hijack this thread, but has anybody been to Siquijor? I'm looking at Kiwi Dive Resort, and Guiwanon Spring Park, for a few days. |

I was there this spring. I would recommend Alona Tropical as well. The Hayahay was decent too at about 2800 pesos. A friend stayed at a fan room at Oops bar for under 1000peso a night if you can deal with the heat.
I would advise staying away from Alona Kew. I stayed in one of their bungalows and when we came back in the evening we found 6 large roaches. I told the receptionists and asked for a new room. They told me there was nothing they could do (terrible service). So we brought the dead roaches we killed to the front desk to get our security deposit back. It was a total hassle, poor service and no apology.
It's okay if you don't eat seafood. There was a lot of chicken and beef dishes you could get. Dinner for the both of us ran about 600 pesos (including salad and entree).
For drinks, Oops bar has happy hour at 6-7pm and I think 9-10pm (buy one get one free beer or cocktail). Coco vida makes good food and drinks. W bar (where the Bohol Diver's club is) is a good place to go Friday/Saturday night (live music, dancing, show). Drinks are about 150-250 for fruity cocktails. Rum and coke is much cheaper though. |

I stayed at Bohol Diver's Resort. The location wasn't that good. They have rooms for as little as 500 pesos all the way up to 4000+. Ours were 1600 pesos. You have to call and ask for them. They're not on the site.
W-Bar has the best band on Sat night but it's also the most expensive bar on the beach. San Miguels were 60 peso but 35-50 peso at other places.
This time, we're staying at Cherry's Home. 150 metres off the beach, but when you merge onto the beach, it's the best place.
Trudi's Place is the best and cheapest place to eat.
