Anybody ever have the problem of your lips cracking and getting cut a little at the sides. It's really irritating. I've tried Bepanthol and Chapstick lip moisturizer with limited success. It always seems to go away some, but never completely. Then later it comes back again.

Any help about what to put on it would be greatly appreciated.

I get that sometimes especially in the winter. There can be a lot of causes for it, which is frustrating, but some simple remedies to try are taking lots of yogurt to re-set your body's yeast chemistry, or vitamin B. Usually I do a combination of these and it clears up within a week.

Also throw away any lip balm you used before you got it because they might have bacteria.

Staying hydrated really helps. Drink lots of water.

If you think "I want to separate from my skin" it flakes off, heavier and heavier each time. if you think "I do not want to separate from my skin, I want my skin to glue itself back together" that's what happens. It takes a few days but once its gone, its gone. WWWlearninggnmDOTcom -not my site, but it is the only site of cures to all

Vaseline, Carmex, or Aquaphor. Lip balm probably won't help much. You need something heavier, more like an ointment, that you can load on to really mousturize and cover the cracks. If you think it might be due to bacteria or infection, a tiny bit of Neosporin or other antibiotic ointment might help.

OP!!!!

I can help. I had painful cracks on the sides of my mouth for 3 years!

The medical term is angular chelitis.

I went to the doctors. They said it was a rash. They said it was a fungus. They said it was a yeast infection. They said it was dehydration. They were all wrong, so none of the medications they gave helped.

You know what it is? A simple bacterial infection. Neosporin a few times a day will take care if it within 3 days. Don't have Neosporin? Then it's a little harder. You'll have to wash your mouth especially the corners three times a day, then dry, then apply Vaseline to create a seal. The first time I used the wash/Vaseline method and the cracks were healed in a week. The second time I used Neosporin and it was gone in three days.

I get this periodically. I didn't know it was an actual thing. It goes away on its own, but is there any way to prevent it?

It's a vitamin B deficiency. Take a supplement and it'll clear up in a few days.

Ahhhh I hate this. Had it a few weeks ago, and I found that eating copious amounts of Kimchi helped.... at least that what my doctor told me to do.

I can only assume that there are different things that can cause the same issue. I personally had the same thing for about 6 months until I went to the dentist and they recommended vaseline. Before the cracked skin at the corners of my mouth would keep recracking everytime I opened my mouth wide (yawned etc). After the vaseline, it cleared up in a week. I suppose it depends on what you have, but vaseline, as well as neosporin are certainly worth a try.

I went to my doctors last year when I was at the brink of going crazy over the stupid cuts and cracks on the side of my mouth - she told me to use athlete foot cream because it has a high percentage of urea which will heal the cuts and cracks. It worked really well - just looked a bit weird pulling out a tube of athlete foot cream instead of lipgloss from my purse...

There is an antibacterial ointment called Fucidin (Hucidin in Korean) that you should be able to find at any pharmacy.
