|
|
I've just started my second contract at the same school, and checked my bank balance and haven't received my 13th month severance pay. I know that my flight money will take a few weeks, but is it normal to have to wait until the following payday to receive this as well? I work for a public school.
My coteacher doesn't know the answer, and I don't want to cause a stink if it's common practice. I could wait, but I'd prefer to wire it home this week if possible, to pay for some rather large purchases I made during home leave, thinking that the money would be waiting for me when I got back. |

Mine is in the works as well. Really you are not meant to get it till you leave. It is hardly "severance" if you haven't severed your ties with the school. Get your co-teach to ask the principal, or whoever is in charge. |

I do realize that it's called severance pay, but many people do receive it at the end of each contract. We sign yearly contracts, so get severance for each contract's completion. Anyway, how long do most people wait after the start of the new contract? |

Not sure who you work for, but for example, SMOE says they will pay the resign bonus(settlement) on the first paycheck of your second year. IF you haven't recieved it, then contact them. It's possible it might come separate and they simply processed it at the same time |

Thanks, Balzor. My first paycheck is the 25th of this month, so, if I don't see it in my bank then, I'll have my coteacher find out what's going on.
The resign bonus is different, but I'll look out for both that and my 13th-month pay. I'm talking about the bonus month that we get after every 12 month contract. |

This is not true across the board, in fact I think this is WRONG unless you actually ask for it.
I never asked fmor mine and DO NOT want it til the end of contract as I get more money by waiting til my third year is done. I would rather have more money.
if you want it then you get it, it's a simple as that, but they are not going to process it unles you want it and tell them ( 99 percent sure) |

It is posted on the SMOE facebook page by SMOE "Important Notice: If you plan on renewing your contract, SMOE will pay the exit/entrance allowance of 2,000,000 KRW on your first months pay of the NEW CONTRACT. Please have money saved up for your flights because you will not see this money before you leave." |

Gangwon epik pays severance maybe a month or 6 weeks into the new contract. Its processed separately from payroll so the date isnt contingent on a regular payday.
It takes the POE a couple weeks to process it, then it goes to the district education office for various rubber stamps & forwarding to your school's accountant to be deposited to you. Hang time on various desks can vary. I imagine other govt programs are similar.
If you dont see it in a month, remind your co-teacher you're expecting it. |

I'm not talking about the renewal bonus of 2 million won. I'm talking about the 13th month's salary. This is a separate monetary incentive. For every 12-month contract, employees get a 13th month of pay. This happens whether or not the employee renews. If I had left, I'd have gotten 1.3 million as exit allowance plus this 13th month. As I've renewed, I get 2 million for renewing as well as this 13th month. |

Balzor, thats the 2 million won ( which NO ONE gets until this August, the August 2010 hires were the first ones offered the 2 million won money as opposed to a flight reimbursement,
But even if we were talking about the severance it means you CAN"T get it early, this is not the same thing as it WILL be on your first check. It means you will not see it BEFORE that time.
Again, I am on second contract and I didnt get it.
And again, there's motivation to NOT get it until you finish, you make more money that way. |

I don't really care about the few hundred thousand that saving it until the end would garner. I want it now to pay for my sexy new 'puter and assorted other fun stuff. I didn't come here to bank. I have no loans or debt besides what I spent on home leave and am getting married later this year, so my money is for playthings and whatever's left goes towards my honeymoon.
I hope I hope I hope I get it this month, though. I love having zero-balances on my credit cards Worst case scenario: I have it paid off next month, I suppose. I have monies in my American accounts, but I don't really want to touch it. That's future house money. Sighs... I wish the administration here would just do things in a timely manner! |

More typically, govt programs have gone over to annual severance payouts. Saves them some big budgeting problems.
Generally, the choice of annual or end-of-employment payment is the employer's prerogative. |

NYC Girl, unless things have changed with public schools recently (which they had talked about doing it last year) severance is to be paid out after you have completely finished working for the POE. It doesn't matter whether it is one year or fifty. Again, I don't know if the changes happened or not. |

well then as I said, you better make sure you ASK for it now, as I am 99 percent certain you will not get it unless you do |
