Hey....I am currently exploring jobs in south Korea and have a number of itnereviews with a variety of different companies.
I am wondering a few things about Cheonan City and working for Avalon as this is one school interview that I have this week....It is a private school.
What is life like in Cheonan City? Are there lots of opportunities to meet new people?
I don't know if it is better to teach in a larger city like Seoul because there are more people to meet, or if it is about the same everywhere.
Also, does anyone know: is it better to teach for public or private schools?
I am also interested in applying for a posting to GEPIK, does anyone know anything about this organization????? |

Cheonan City is South of Seoul - It sits approx. in the middle of Seoul and Daejon. Your question about whether to live in a small or large city depends on your own personal preference.
Korea is just like any other country. If you like the hustle and bustle of a big city like NY or London then you will like Seoul. If you prefer a less crowded place, not as many foreign amenities, and foreigners then Cheonan is your choice.
If you do a search you might find out more information about Avalon. Also, you can do a search about the difference between private and public schools. You will get a good idea. This question has been asked many times so Im sure your question can be answered there.
But again it will come down to preference of work hours, class size, vacation etc. Which is better for you. |

I lived in Cheonan for four months last year.
It's a really good sized city with enough to do during the day, and lots of nightlife. There is also a large foreigner community who generally meet in and around the 'Terminal' area of the city. They are the usual mix of oddballs from around the English speaking world, and most of them are friendly and welcoming. I made a lot of good friends in my short time there, both korean and foreign.
