|
|
So my co-teacher this year is really great most of the time. Unfortunately, she is a workaholic and burns the candles at both ends. For the past month or so she has been having dizzy spells and feels terrible. She goes to the acupuncturist in the morning, then comes to school saying she is still too dizzy to teach, and goes and lays down in the nurses room all morning and I have to teach by myself.
I really think she should go to a real doctor and not oriental, it does not seem like being pricked with some needles is fixing the problem.
So my question...is it out of place to try to convince her to go to a real doctor who might be able to actually determine what is wrong with her? These dizzy spells create alot of stress for me and other teachers who have to deal with her disappearing into the nurses room. |

I wouldn't get involved the reason/excuse for her absence. Sounds like she hates the job. Just tell her that if she isn't attending, you don't want the kids coming to the English room, but you'll go teach in their classroom with their homeroom teacher. Then let the homeroom teacher put pressure on to fix the problem.

Complain to the veep or whatever. If she can't do her job, that isn't your problem.
One of my co-teachers was like yours. She was diagnosed with stomach cancer last week. Avoid stress at all costs! |

Use this as an example of why she should go to a real doctor. Seriously. |

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I had a little chat with her and talked about how she's feeling and how acupuncture doesn't seem to be working in this situation. She said she realizes that she needs to go to a different doctor, so we'll see if she meant it or not. |

Co-teachers are interested in English slang and idioms. Tell her that the sound that ducks make " Quack" has a different meaning. Tell her to look up the English slang meaning of Quack most likely she has a dictionary definition on her cell phone. See if she figures it out. |

She might be suffering from low blood pressure or anemia, or both. Many many Koreans do, and mostly women.
Low blood pressure= 저혈압
Anemia: 빈혈 |

I have found acupuncture to be excellent for pain relief after injury or such, and to relax. However, I would not go to one for stomach pain. And if it ain't workin', yeah, she needs to move on.
Just saying, acupuncture has it's uses, it's not all quackery. |

I tried to get my first co-teacher to see a doctor for PMS. it started out that for one week a month she was crzy it seemed.
WHen it started to get become the entire month, I switched tactics to go see a shrink. Everything better after that. |
