Polarization does cost more, especially if the lenses are polycarbonate, which is one of the better plastics for rimless chassis. Titanium alloy (to be flexible it has to be a blend or it'll snap) is also extremely expensive.

UV can be purchased on the cheap.

Pants- $50
Shirt- $60
Shoes- $100
Watch- $200
Glasses- $300

Looking fly, priceless. I think it's funny that being cheap is looked at as a virtue. Surely spending money on clothes that you can not afford is not a good thing, but nice quality clothes are a good investment. Not to mention that having a good suit/tie/shoes can be important to your professional life as it is easy to spot the cheap ones.

Male college student:

Vibram Fivefingers - $100
Nike running pants - $40 on sale
T-Shirt - Free with purchase of health supplements
Underwear - $10 (for some reason I'm wearing expensive ones today)

Total: $150.

Also, I usually wear flip flops if I'm not wearing the Vibrams, which are $4.99. So normally my total would be:

$55.

I don't think I'll ever wear jewelry or a watch, just not my style and is uncomfortable. I also hate carrying sunglasses around. Therefore, my outfits will never add up to much unless I wear a suit and some nice shoes.

Edit: Forgot to include my wallet, which is a $15 Slimclip. Coolest little thing around, fits in any front pocket.

anyone who spends 300 bucks on either a bag or a pair of sunglasses, or virtually eny article of clothing is a bit off.

Some women will wear an article of clothing once and then can't be seen in it again because its no longer the "current style"

Then there are the "Carrie Bradshaw's" of the world who will not only spend thousands of dollars on shoes, but buy hundreds of pairs of them that need their own room.

The fact that many free first wrold countries think that crap like this is okay while mahy of our own citizens starve in the streets, or scrape by after being laid off because American companies want to make their producst for half the cost down in Mexixo is rather disturbing.

That being said if you exclude my 600 dollar glasses or the 300 dollar watch I bought as it was a limited edition ....

It also said that men wear $1377 in clothing.

Jesus H Christ...I don't think I know anyone who wears that much in clothing, including my dad who wears a nice suit everyday to work (he's a lawyer). Where the hell are they getting these numbers? A group of 10 people on Wall Street?

What a terrible article. I look forward to taking my year long trip around the world, with just a few dollars worth of clothing in my bag (not counting my camera, ipod, and kindle though...)

Again, it's counting things like cellular phones, the money in your wallet, and so forth as "clothing."

Well the article counts your camera, ipod and kindle in its calculations, so you're probably all ready over a thousand dollars. See why it's silly?

Nice shoes, a custom-tailored shirt, some well-made trousers, a tie, jacket, briefcase, watch, shades. Even without counting ipad or kindle, mobile phone, wallet, and other accessories this can add up to a lot. Again: quality over quantity. We know that the custom-tailoring isn't done in a sweatshop, like so many bargain buys. Which is worse for humanity? At least someone who can afford it is putting money back into the economy.

Do you think that some broad in Manhattan wearing a $500 pair shoes somehow takes $500 of food out of mouths in the third world?

You people are forgeting one major thing, wedding rings. A lot of people spend $1500+, so 1400 is actually a low ball figure.

Hey! I've had those boots for nearly 6 years now! Laughing

Also, the same people who buy expensive goods often do donate to charities. Tax write off or not, it's feeding those starving children.

Exactly.

Besides, wearing expensive stuff is an act of charity. Those boots were probably made in the third world!

Quite the opposite. Those boots were made at a cobbler's shop. Like my sandals, they were a custom order that were made in house. Walking in them feels like walking on clouds, even on cobblestones. With basic maintenance, they'll last another 6 years at the least.

Those BoGo cheapo shoes at Payless may make you feel smart, because you get 2 pair for under $100, but where do you think THEY are made?

Pay for quality. Get quality. Pay for crap. Get some kid's fingers cut off in some terrible sweatshop. I'd rather pay more for a lesser-known name that's cruelty free and going to last a long time.

2 pairs of shoes for under $100 isn't specifically cheap. :/ That's like a pair of good street sneakers and some flats.

Now Payless better be under $20/pair or it's a rip off.

I think it's amusing what some people think is cheap is what I consider paying more than what I would like to. haha I guess it's all perspective.
