Thanks for the information!

So should I just go to the Incheon airport (I'll be picking up friends there next month) and buy them there? That's all I need to do? Any documents I should bring?

You should be able to buy it at pretty much any travel agent in Korea. I got mine at Unique Travel in Itaewon. I called them and ordered a pair and then wired them the money and picked them up the next day.

Thank you, both. Very helpful! Very Happy One more question:

With the Japan rail pass, what lines do I take to visit Osaka/Kyoto and Hiroshima? I read something on a website about how no "nozami" trains are covered with the rail pass, so I wondered what other trains were covered.

The 'hikari' series of trains are included in the rail pass, & there are stops at all 3 stations: Osaka, Kyoto & Hiroshima. The rail pass also covers the ferry to Miyajima.

The 'nozami' are the super express trains. Your pass covers everything else.

Try any travel agency with an agent that speaks English!

Wendy,

I rode the bullet train with the JR rail pass about 2 years ago. Definitely worthwhile and I stopped in Hiroshima, Osaka, and the option of going to Kyoto was there.

Nozomi is the ridiculously fast bullet train, I saw a Japanese baseball player- he took the train before mine which was the Nozomi. (people were lining up for his autograph, and I got it too!)

Also if you have the funds, get the First class *Green* pass. You can pretty much secure a seat anytime. Sometimes Coach gets full!

in Busan the best place to buy them is the travel agent in the International Ferry Terminal. It is open on the weekend and they issue the order for you right then and there so you don't have to wait to get the ticket you have to take to Japan to redeem in order to get the actual pass. The pass itself is also a shiny little pamphlet. Fits neatly inside your passport and makes a nice little souvenir.
