I'm teaching a 2 week high school camp. They want me to do Screen English lessons. Can anyone recommend any good books or materials for it?
I've never taught screen English before. Would appreciate some advice on it also. |

Screen English is showing movies and Television programs with the English subtitles so they have to listen and read in English. They cannot rely on the Korean subtitles.
"Lost" Season one.
Most of the sentences are really short and simple. There's also tons of body language and gestures that support the language. I would give students a handout with words like
Turbulence- Cockpit Transmission with either the Korean translation or a simple English translation first then I would let them watch it.
Crossroads Cafe- I'm not sure if it's still available. A good EFL/ESL series.
Friends.
You might also try some of the Kareoke activities on Karafun. This site is linked from

I'm not sure if you are asking for recommendations for material, but you might try having a look at this site:

Seems like it's not too bad. |

i've actually written a screen english workbook for my school. it's not too bad to do by yourself.
i didn't do the whole movie though since this is something by school plays almost every morning for only ~10 minutes. i basically just selected the most important parts of the movie that the kids needed to understand for the plot, found the transcript, and did some fill-in-the-blank exercises. i'd also include some comprehension questions and some vocabulary they needed to look up at the bottom of the page.
if you're doing this for a camp, why don't you try something like the above, plus activities like:
-stop the movie before the end and have the students write and act out what they think will happen
-have the students pretend to interview one of the characters from the movie (presentations)
-write and film a trailer for the movie |
