Hey,
Thought I would let the beer drinkers know that Max is making a Special Hop 2010 beer. I'm drinking it now and it is rather nice. Maybe in this heat anything cool would be nice.
Anyway, if you have tried it give your opinion. I might compare it to a couple of foreign beers. |

Where can you find it? I would like to try it.. That said, the new Cass light is surprisingly drinkable. Nice after work can to shake off the day without unpleasent feelings in stomach or mind. |

+1.
I was in Homeplus yesterday and didn't see it, but I wasn't looking. They have their 5 for 10,000 sale going on, so I was loading up on imports. |

I bought a six pack at Emart after I realized the Tiger beer was sold out. (Tiger, which is a great wee beer, is only 10,000won for a 6 pack.)
I also saw them at the Homeplus in Mullae. I'm not sure whether they have them any more. |

It's available in many major markets (Mega Mart, HomePlus, Emart) and often at convenience stores. At markets expect to pay about 3,800 won for the 1600ml pitcher. Green cap, very clearly labeled. You'll know when you see it.
As a seasoned drinker of beer (a Chico State graduate-- Sierra Nevada), I can offer some input. This year's version of the Max Special Hop is pretty good, but (from the first pitcher I tried) not as satisfying as last summer's edition. Although, I must say that last year the taste was inconsistent-- some bottles were much better than others, which may be the case again this year.
This year's beverage has a slightly fruity aftertaste, pretty smooth, not bad. A bit tangy. Last summer the hop was from New Zealand (and a bit more hoppy) and clearly labeled in English and Korean. The 2010 Special Hop is a hop from South Africa. This is written in Korean (남아프리카) but not in English this summer. The African theme is evident on the bottle. I haven't seen cans yet, only 1600ml pitchers. Overall, a good decent beer worth trying. If I get a good bottle (or can when available) as I did last summer, I'd say worth stocking up on (as I did a year ago). A good change from the basic Korean choices. A nice choice while you're cheering on your favorite side(s) during the World Cup starting soon in South Africa.
Cheers,

| I saw it in a Family Mart in Jongno-gu. Was ok, but a far cry from a foreign hoppy beer. |

| It's Korean beer! It has no hops, just chemicals. Koreans make the worst beer on the planet. |

| I just assumed it was packaged special for the world cup. Regular Hite has a world cup label too. Did they actually change the recipe? Somehow I doubt it. |

I'm glad I read this post. I've seen the Special Hops around a bunch of times but haven't tried it because, basically, Korean beer sucks and I thought it would suck too.
