I am a little confused as to what's going on at the moment in regards to my visa process. My original start date was May 31st, but I didn't get my background check in time, so they pushed it back to the 2nd week of June. After deciding not to get a summer job because I would be leaving soon, I get a tip from a current teacher at the hagwon that hired me saying that they hired someone else in my place. I confronted my recruiter, and she replies saying that my new start date is mid-July. I have all of my visa documents in order and sent to Seoul.
It has now been over 2 weeks since I sent my visa documents, and still no visa issuance number. I have emailed my recruiter and school manager several times without a reply, and am starting to really doubt this thing is going to happen. Should I go ahead and follow up on other jobs?
I'm bummed because I really liked the location of the position and the school.
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks! |

It sounds like since you didn't have the background check in time the recruiter decided to give that position to someone else and shafted you. If so, then you need to ask the recruiter what school and location they are signing you up for. I'm assuming if you are that far into the process you have signed a contract. What does the contract say? You need to contact the recruiter and tell them if they are not going to give you the information that you will not be coming to Korea.
You are at a disadvantage since they have all your documents. I wouldn't have sent them anything until all this was clear up. |

Ask the recruiter to be honest with you and that if the original school hired someone else that that's ok and that if he/she has another school in mind to just let you know. If not, get your documents back. |

Sorry OP, no recruiter is going to give you your documents back. If you don't want to stay with this recruiter, you'll have to re-gather your docs for another recruiter.
Good luck. |

More than likely you got shafted by your school and recruiter. A recruiter will do almost anything to ensure they get paid. I'm not sure the word loyalty is in their vocabulary. |

OP you should definitely move on to a Public School position. Did you even check the Hogwan out on Dave's and any other websites. Did you try to contact any former employers of the Hogwan? Lots of Luck.
My recruiter sent all of my docoments back to me. They were ThingBig recruiting. |

When you got your documents, did you get more than one copy? If so, no problem. If you only ordered one copy of everything then let this be a lesson for next time. Always get about 3X what you need of each document. It's not that expensive, and it saves you the trouble of doing it all over again.
Even if you came to Korea, and you didn't like it, you'd need those docs to get another job (maybe in another country even).
If you have another set of documents, then just apply to other jobs. Apply at a bunch of recruiters and schools. Take the best offer you get within the next 4 days. If you have your documents ready, you can get a job offer tomorrow. Many schools want the NET start working yesterday, so if you have the docs ready, and send them in, you an often be in Korea in 2 or 3 weeks from now. If you have had an E2 before (it sounds like you haven't but for others to know here it is) if you have all your documents, you can get a job starting in 2 days from now if you really are in a hurry. The hogwan (only hogwans do this) will fly you to Korea, apply for your visa issuance number while you're in Korea and then send you to Japan for the visa.
Anyway, the documents you sent that recruiter are gone. You can ask for them back, but don't count on getting them. You CAN tell the recruiter that if she doesn't find you a job that starts within 1 week, you'll use another recruiter. They CAN'T get you a job that fast, but she might try to get negotiate with you for a job that starts in 2 weeks. Since they already have your docs they can get that done a little bit faster. If you say you want a jobs that starts in 2 weeks, she'll negotiate 3 or 4 weeks with you (like she's already been doing). In the mean time, ask other recruiters what they have available. |
