I especially miss home this time of year, but that's about it.

yeah but I bet if you come into money you wouldn't be here! now would you?
million dollar lifestyle in new york?

Hmm.. some good reality in both posts. But I lived in NYC for awhile.. and I was able to get dates off the Internet as well as with foreigners. I found it easy through those methods. And had a great time.

But bar-hopping in NYC was impossible to get dates as your competion is who knows how many rich lawyers and businessmen.. as well as all kinds of semi-actors, musicians, artists and everything else.

Granted what Itaewonguy said... if you had the money.. there would be no better place in the world to live than NYC.. the world at your footstep. I found there were so many men already with money that if you didn't have any it was.. well almost unacceptable.

As far as marriage goes.. doesn't matter at home or abroad.. as long as the woman was born in another country.. that seems most interesting and advantageous to me and what I want.

Hmm, I'm not sure I'd agree with NYC. Yes, I've been there but there are a lot of people who leave NYC because of the pace of life and such. I'm also thinking that a lot of the people who earn big bucks also have no lives outside of work (then again, that is true anywhere if you're earning a lot).

I'd rather take my chances in a place where my dough wouldn't deplete as fast as it would in the Big Apple. If you had a million dollars, would you go to NYC? In my case, I'd go retire in Thailand or something.

I used to say I would definitely be going back home 3-4 years...these days I'm not so sure. I've definitely become "cemented" here over time.

So after 7 years, how many of those guys are still here? I know that Shawner didn't seem to be able to find happiness here or anywhere but what about the other guys that said they were going to stay?

I'm still here, but did you have to resurrect a dead thread?

Korea was great in my 20's. But as I approached 30, I had this nagging anxiety about becoming a graying, middle-aged English teacher still living like a frat boy. When the opportunity came to get out of that game, I grabbed it with both hands.

Been back home 3 years. Married. Kids. Decent job. Still miss Korea from time to time, but very comfortable with the decision to settle down and go into the straight world.

I'll come back to South Korea, but it'll be for two weeks with my wife and kids when we're on our next vacation.

I'm not the one to resurrect it and if the OP had been anyone other than who it was I wouldn't have bothered to comment...

when I first got here I was sure I was going home in a year, or at least going to a different country. Well, 1 year later looking for a new job and possibly going to grad school here. Could see myself as a lifer.

Let's not misuse the term "lifer." You're not a lifer if you've lived here for under ten years, because I know so many who plan on leaving Korea for home but take years to do so.

Then again, other "lifers" all of a sudden pack up and leave Korea after living here for what seems like forever. Then you have the people who left ten years ago and then return.

I was pretty sure I was only going to stay a year also. Going back now is hard for me though, even with a good career type job to go back to.

Damn....I've just been re-reading all of Korea Life Blog. It was my bible when I first came to Korea.

But come on, is this somebody's idea of dark humor, bringing this thread back?

Not cool.
