Really, a whole country ? I would settle for parts of it. Cities or regions to be more fair.

I was in Jaipur, India and I've rarely seen such loutish behaviour from some of the locals. I've been told by Inidan Nationals that the region, Rajastan, has some "uneducated nationalists" that bother all Indians as well as tourists who go there.

Small consolation. Confused

The 2006/7 Lonely Planet Guide/Fromms had a warning about China plastered on the front page. It warned about foreigners with 'darker complexions' being harrassed in China.

I read in High Times years ago...a couple of decades ago...that Rajasthan is the only province in India where hash is legal and sold openly in cafes and candy shops (rocket candies).

The people working in the ticket windows of the Moscow train station seemed to take my presence as a personal insult. I was so pleased there was glass between us or I may never have gotten the nerve to finish the transaction.

The touts in Jaipur are sweet relief compared to the ones in Delhi. Jaipur is also far less polluted than Delhi.

Aside from pollution, Hanoi seemed stocked with obnoxious people.

Algeria. Particularly the North, but the South wasn't all that friendly either. Coldest place I have ever been to. This was in the late 80's though, just two years before the election whose results (the election of Muslim fundamentalists) resulted in a take-over by the military. The terror began shortly after. Haven't been back since, but the desert there was fantastic.

Russia if you don't speak or look Russian, some parts are better than others, skin heads will rob you or beat you up and rude underpaid staff people.
Korea, they love to stare, and avoid sitting next to people, and ask rude questions and make rude comments, frequently get intoxicated in public, spit, piss and throw garbage on the street.
China, many love to scam also spitting and being dirty in public.
Lack of a common language is the biggest issue, also being insensitive to a countries culture can contribute heavily to a bad experience.

Anywhere in Europe, really, but the UK and Portugal in particular. Must be a longitude thing? Mr. Green

The Portuguese are warm and friendly once you get to know them, but otherwise remarkably miserable. Jose Mourinho is an absolutely stereotypical Portuguese.

I agree with UK. Most people working are not satisfied with their jobs and be sure to let you know that.

Japanese are polite but a little cold and distant.

I think the topic is unfriendly, not rude. Not exactly the same. For one, japanese are not so friendly but very polite. Koreans, if you know them, are friendly, but not so polite.

Really? I had the opposite experience. Very Happy I agree that the air in Jaipus is much better, but the traffic and the locals were much worse. Outside of Paharganj Dehli seemed okay, but everyone I dealt with in Jaipur was pushy aggressive and rude. Worst touts in the world imo.

Hotel receptionists and other customer service personnel in China can be brutally rude. Any apparent friendliness directed to foreigners is often a rip-off scam in the making.

Vietnamese tend to harass you for money constantly. They also have an underlying rabid nationalism.

Koreans, particularly the 40-50-something generation, often have a deep-rooted wall of xenephobia built up against outsiders.

Parts of Northern Ireland is filled with something similar but more agressive.

Depressed council estates in N. England can likewise be pretty unfriendly if not downright dangerous.

I found France and French people to be pretty nice actually. This was just my experience of course, but I found little of the famed French aloofness and arrogance. I did my best with French I had, and when I got stuck people were willing to help me out. More so than I've experienced here in Korea. Even more than some places in New Zealand.

It's only the Parisians who live up to the rude, arrogant French stereotype. The rest - not a chance.

I found the people in the airport in Rome to be incredibly rude. If you try to ask the staff a question they just brush you off. Otherwise the country was fine.
