Come on, man. Give the ideologue thing a rest and join the rest of the human race in painful and bewildering ambiguity. |

| A lot of you guys are one trick ponies. I would say that Venezuela's problem has a lot more to do with a egotistical authoritarian leader than it's economic system, which is not really socialism, but Chavez doing whatever he wants with it. |
Do you understand that is the technical definition of socialism is when the state nationalizes industry and distribution? |
Yes, technically you are right. I realized it was a bit of a contradiction as I wrote it, but I get the feeling that Chavez is manipulating the economy for political ends rather than economic ones. So technically socialism, but I would say it's handling is more a symptom of his despotic tendencies rather than out of some sort of socialist ideology. |

Hi Leon, I'd like to introduce you to socialism. |
Make glib remarks if you must, but there is a difference. Socialism is just a disguise he uses to justify his actions, just like anti-communism was the disguise that many regimes used in the 80's in Latin America. The Socialism isn't really the issue here, as is the violence that Chavez uses to maintain control. When I say violence I mean economic as well as most other areas of life. To go on about socialism is trying to see the problem only through your already accepted world view. Socialism, just like any other economic system, isn't inherently violent. |

I will be sure to insert nuance in the form of fluff from now on. |
