Hi all,
There are a couple of things I am not sure about in the wording.
The teaching hours are 120, which does not include preparation, etc.
The overtime pay is a tad low.
Pension is not mentioned.

1. CONTRACT DURATION:
It is hereby agreed between the School and the Instructor that the Instructor shall teach at
the school for a period of one year, starting from
2. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE INSTRUCTOR:
(A) The Instructor's working hours shall be determined by the School's schedule. School
operational hours are from Monday to Friday.
(B) The instructor is responsible for familiarizing him or herself with all institute materials
relevant to teaching at the School. The instructor shall faithfully teach and train
students at the School.
(C) The instructor is responsible for maintaining a pleasant working environment.
(D) The instructor is responsible for following the rules of conduct set up by the institute.
3. TEACHER'S SALARY:
The teacher's total monthly salary shall be 2.1 million won per month. Teaching
hours are actual time spent in the classroom instructing students and does not include
preparation, seminars, meetings, break times, event participation/preparation. (total of
teaching hours will be 120 hours per month)
4. SEVERANCE PAY
On completion of one뭩 responsibilities of the full contract period, the severance pay is
2.1 million won. It will be paid only at the successful completion of the contract.
5. OVERTIME PAY
If the instructor teaches, additional teaching hours over and above 30 hours per
week, overtime compensation of 18,000 Won/hour shall be paid for those hours.
4. AIRFARE TO KOREA:
(A) The instructor's one-way economy class or regular class airfare from the nearest
International airport to Korea will be paid for by the school.
(B) A one-way economy class ticket to the instructor뭩 port of origin will be provided for by
the school after the completion of the 12 month contract.
(C) Return airfare will not be provided if the teacher leaves the school prior to completion
of the 12 month contractual teaching period. For a dismissal or voluntary resignation
within the first six months of this Contract period, the amount of airfare to Korea
will be reimbursed to the school by the instructor and will be deducted from the
Employee뭩 last monthly salary.
5. HOUSING:
(A) The institute will provide a private single person accommodation.
Instructor뭩 initial:
(B) The teacher's apartment furnishings shall include: basic cooking utensils such as pots
pans and dishes; a stove; a refrigerator; a bed with clean linen; a washing machine;
heater, air conditioner, TV, and telephone.
(C) Costs for all utilities: including electricity, heat, gas, and building maintenance shall be
paid by the teacher.
6. VACATION TIME:
The teacher shall have 10 days of paid vacation. The paid vacation will normally be 5
days for summer and 5 days for winter. But the schedule can be changed in accordance
to the school뭩 schedule. Documented sick leave and emergency leave will be paid for a
combined total of 3 working days a year. The teacher must provide the institute with as
much advance notice as possible.
7. INCOME TAX:
Approximately 3-4% per month of the instructor's salary shall be deducted by the
employer as withholding tax as provided by Korean law. This percentage may change in
accordance to Korean law.
8. HEALTH INSURANCE:
Employee will be covered by medical benefits under the Korean Medical
Insurance Union, a Government Health Organization. The cost of this coverage will be
borne half by Employer and half by Employee. Payment will be made by monthly deduction
from Employee's salary; a like amount contributed by Employer.
9. INSTRUCTOR뭆 DUTY:
(A) The instructor will set a good positive example of himself and his institute at all times.
Furthermore, the instructor will follow the directions of his director.
(B) The instructor is required to have preparation time for classes for better educational
quality. The instructor will follow class schedules and will not dismiss class, cancel
class, or start classes late without the approval of the institute director.
(C) The instructor agrees NOT to partake in the following activities since they may damage
the reputation of the institute.
1) Conducting class while under the influence of alcohol, smoking, or under the
influence of illegal drugs.
2) Make sexual advances towards, or enter into relationships with students or
employees of the institute.
3) Conducting any private classes or accepting any funds without the permission from
the institute.
4) Borrowing or lending of funds from students or conducting any sales of items to
students.
14 DISMISSALS OR VOLUNTARY RESIGNATION
Instructor뭩 initial:
The employer reserves the right to dismiss the teacher from employment for the following
causes:
(A) Teacher displays blatant misconduct by breeching any of the terms set forth here in this
agreement..
(B) Frequent unexcused absence from work.
(C) Teacher뭩 health prohibits teacher from fully performing his/her duties either physically
or mentally..
(D) Engaging in any illegal activities or criminal behavior..
The employer agrees to give the employee the courtesy of 30 working days notice in the
event of dismissal.
(However, in the case of a teacher뭩 criminal behavior, misconduct, or with any discretion
thereof, he/she will be dismissed from employment immediately, without warning or notice.)
In the event the teacher resigns from employment, he/she can do so giving 30 working
days notice to the employer.
11 . Both parties have carefully read this contract; They have agreed to its terms in good
faith; and they will attempt to resolve any disputes which may arise in accordance
with the terms of the contract, and in a reasonable manner. All disputes, which
cannot be resolved by the parties to this contract will be resolved through the legal
system of Korea in accordance with Korean law.

(B) The instructor is responsible for familiarizing him or herself with all institute materials

(D) The instructor is responsible for following the rules of conduct set up by the institute.

days notice to the employer. This is common courtesy, but if you want to quit you should be able to without notice.

The contract isn't that bad, I've seen way worse. My biggest concern would be the hours.
Since they didn't mention the pension in the contract, they aren't going to pay into it. By law they are supposed to pay in to the pension fund, but there are loops holes so they don't have to. |

You should also have a quick breeze through there so you will have a better understanding of what should and what should NOT be in YOUR contract.
