Can any recommend a place (preferably beach bungalow) that is right on the beach? I don't care which beach in Thailand as long as the water is clear and calm. It's almost June and we are already planning our trip for January. We will be there for two months so I am not too concerned if it is difficult to reach, as we will have plenty of time.
I would prefer a quieter kind of place as our 18-month old son will be with us. A pool would be great, but not a deal breaker. I would prefer to pay less than $50USD per night.
Any help is always appreciated. |

There for up to 2 months... you can skip the resort bungalows and just rent a house. Cost you about $200 per month with everything included (like electric, water, and cooking gas). (maybe a bit more in places like Phuket or Krabi).
A house located a street or two back from the beach will cost about 1/2 that. |

any recommendations as to how to find such a place? We are traveling with our young son and I really don't want to just show up and look for something.
That is a great idea though. I never even thought of renting a house.
I did do a google search, but got nothing in the price range you quoted. |

You won't find house rentals on the internet.
Pick where you want to go. Grab a hotel for the 1st 5 days.
ASK about houses for rent. They pop out of the woodwork at you.
Took me 3 days to find a house in Suphan... (no beach here though). I pay about $100 per month.
Might take a week in places like Phuket or South Pattaya.
Lots of places along the south east coast (east of Phuket) as well that are nice but not really touristy. (How is your Thai?).

With that...also, don't bother to book a hotel ahead of time. When you land in a place, at the airport there is a book of the hotels in the area, you pick one and the taxi drops you off. Super easy. |

check out http://www.huahinfinder.com/
sam roi yot is especially nice south of hua hin. long nearly empty beaches that are shallow and calm most of the year. dolphin bay resort is very kid friendly as well. i rented the orchid house which has a great salt water pool. it wasn't cheap but very very nice.
best thing is you can just hop in a taxi from bangkok airport or arrange a car to pick you up and deliver you to your place (2-3hrs) and of course you can stop whenever/wherever you like along the way. 2-3,000baht well worth it for the comfort of you and your family. |
