I'm going to be moving from a larger area near Seoul (Bucheon specifically) to Jeju city next month. I have heard that Jeju is nicer and a bit more slow paced. Other than that, can anyone give me the abridged version of life in Jeju?

Mostly I am curious about cost of living compared to Seoul. Are Korean restaurants about the same or is everything marked up for the tourism industry? What about oranges? Are they suddenly more expensive because they are from Jeju? And most importantly, there are "orange places" (kimbab nation, kimbab heaven) there right?

No, but seriously, there are a lot of jobs here in Bucheon and a strong upper middle class so the schools are nicer too. I would continue to recommend Bucheon as a great place to live.

Right now all my kids have parents who are doctors, businessmen, and pilots. I'm hoping my wealthy Jeju children will be born of lawyers and CEOs.

If you don't mind answering another question, how's the beach/ocean?
I've spend almost the entirety of my life landlocked and I get all gooey around saltwater and palm trees. Is it the kind of beach where one can chillax on the sand in a bathing suit or is it more of a rocky lookout sort of place?

Oh. I mean, is it more of a lookout beach with lots of rocks or a nice lay on the sand kind of beach? Are the good beaches (for laying on sand) very crowded?

I was at Jungmun Beach a few weeks ago. I liked it. It isn't huge by my standards but I enjoyed it. The sand is large grained (seriously) and the surf crashes close to the shore. There are a number of beaches along the coast of course but I only visited two - the other was West of there. Not as nice but probably less crowded during the busy time.

Definitely a relax beach - except during July and August I would guess.

Seemed pretty clean and a comfortable temperature.

Expats have an Ultimate league.

Baghdad Cafe in Jeju City has good Indian food.

Gecko's near jungmon beach.

Hiking trails on Halla Mt.

Nice walking trail along the beach West of Jungmon.

Return flights to Seoul seem to be about 150.000 return these days.

Good place to have a bike (either kind) or a car.

People seemed pretty relaxed.
